Modchip Enquire

Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone could help me (hopefully some in my hometown of melbourne, australia)

I recently rang around for my PS2 to get re-chipped. there is a place i rang...said to me it costs $120 for a Hong Kong chip or $170 for a European chip

what he was telling me that the $120 HK chips are from hong kong and the $170 Euro chips are from europe...obviously

can someone tell me what chips come from HK and Europe (and justify the price difference)

Thanks in advance

That’s kind of a lame way to go about selling chips.

"Oh this one is from butt f*cked Egypt, oh and this one is from partsunknown."

How stupid.....just ask him the manufactures name of the chip, if he cant tell you other then where it came from I would look else where. The reason I say this is because there are quit a few chips that come out of each region so its not like something that you could pin point.

Contact Shadowknyght, He can hook you up with a real modchip + install.Like Sped said, Alot of chips on the market. Its hard to say what you are getting.

Well i got it done from the guy

the chip that was $120 was a duo chip - i got that
the $170 chip was a messiah....doesn't justify the price difference

I argree...this selling technique is kinda stupid because you got no knowledge on what they are...i had to basically ask three times to find out what chips he had

Smart move getting the DUO chip. Its just as good as the messiah.

Just a quick update

The duo Chip works fine (finally i can play splinter cell pandora tomorrow)...i'm only fuming at one thing

Apparently the guy changed my motherboard on me...i've got a v7 ps2 (SCPH-39002), i was playing with the time and date settings on my ps2 and i checked the version of it now it's says it's SCPH-30002 R (i think that's a v5 or v6) - i only noticed it tonight, i'm wondering if the chip makes the change (highly unlikely) or he changed the board without telling me.

i rang the guy and told him what's happened and he told me to drop it off tomorrow and he'll look at it (i rather be there in person and watch him do it).

it's got 6 months warranty on it...so i guess i better use it to my advantage

should i matter about the difference in version (i need opinions)

This is why it pays to deal with a repetable installer.

IMO V7’s are the best with most dependable laser. If he swapped out your V7 for an R type he would have had to change the laser too. I’d be fuming too if someone tried make off with my V7 laser.

I can’t remember the GH # printed on the right side of the boards V7 something like GH–18 and V5 GH–15 ? Maybe find out from a mod site. Also R type lasers look different from C type, More of the focus gear is shown on R type where C type have the black cover with just a small hole for the lens. If you think you can get the cover off without breaking the eject ribbon, have a look inside the drive.

Other than Shadowknyght who lives interstate from me...there are not my installers in melbourne...

Anyways

I will be going there tomorrow and demanding what the hell happened with my v7 board (and my laser too)!! - what should i do if he stuffed up my v7 board??? (atm the ps2 is running ok...it's just the fact that the ps2 board is not the right one)

ihaveanosebleed - i would check my board by the installer put one of those "warranty void if removed" stickers over one of the screw holes!

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens....wish me luck

where did you get your chip installed, was it at a place called Ace game store

Renegade_Playa 14-07-2004 06:09

Nah...a place call Console Game Station...found in the trading post...mobius...i heard of ace game store but i dunno..i've had people (3 people) that had major problems with their PS2's when they got them to install them...what have you heard about them??

Update:
the problem is fixed...he said to me that one of the ground wires was soldered on and that makes it a v7....is that possible?? i just told him to change the board and it's all good!! (the laser unit was my original v7 unit)

like i said...a ground wire not connected changing a v7 to a v5/6...weird!

I own the original but i use a backup copy to preserve my originals and my friends borrow my original games to play (they don't have their ps2 modchipped yet)

don't worry i know about the rules of the land around here...but i'm just saying this to not be in trouble with the higher powers of this place

MoBiUs 15-07-2004 04:27

my v10 was modded by ace game store wasnt too happy as i asked for a DMS3 instead they installed a MARS II. Ive gotten a new v10 and going to get it modded by ShadowKnyght soon.
