PSX boot-disc for PS2?
God day
I was wondering if there exist any boot disc for PS2 to play PSX-games? My PS2 has a mod-chip, but PS1 back ups doesn't seemse to work. Therefor, I though that it might got solved if I could find a boot-disc - but still it's just a theory. And no, I have no idea what mod-chip I have. It was a special offer from a Swedish store, but it never mentioned what mod-chip it was. All I know is that it works perfect for PS2 back ups and import. Regards, Pedalen |
I think every chip has had the ability to boot ps1 games on a ps2. Give us some details as to what you got. Like what version ps2. When you bought it and when it was chipped. How do you boot your ps2 backups. And so on.

Okay. I bought my PlayStation 2 for about 4 - 5 months ago. They version is SCPH-5004. The mod-chip was installed for about 2 - 3 months ago, so it's still pretty new.
The game I tested, was burnt using Alcohol 120% with "Datatype" set to "PlayStation" and the speed was set pretty low. The medium was Memorex 700 MB. For the method, here is what the instructions say: "Put the game disc into the console, and hold the Reset-button until the console 'turns off'. Then hold down the Reset-button once more, for about 2 - 3 seconds, until the Eject-button turns blue." If I just had put the game-disc into the console without using this method, it would just show the memory-card (so at least the method works.. halfway, so to say). I recently sended an e-mail to the store, so I hope I might can get more info. /Pedalen |
Seeing you have a fairly new xbox you probably have a v9 or v10. Just about any of the chips that work with them should allow the play of ps1 games as well.
So tell me what happens after you hold the reset button till the eject light turns blue? Tyler! |

When I follow the instructions, the screen turns black. The screen will flicker a few times - as it normaly do when I start PS2-games - but then nothing happens. The little lamp on the control doesn't turn on, as it otherwise do. Everyone else: Really? Hmm, let's see then. First, after putting in the CD, I will hold the Reset-button till the PS2 goes into Standby. Then, I will hold the Eject-button till the Eject-button turns blue? I tested it, but what only happened was that the CD-tray opened up. Did I do something wrong now? /Pedalen |
Seems very odd to me. Is there any way you can open your ps2 up and see what kinda mod you have in it? Or even better take a pic of it and get in touch with me via AIM?

I received an answer from the store yesterday, so I went by today and gave them my PS2. He said it would take some days, but would call me when he had checked it.
TylerDurden: I found the receipt I got in exchange for the modded console. It says it's a "Bootchip". Since I don't dare to open up my PS2 myself (I have always bad luck with technical stuff - as you might see  ), I went to the store's homepage and found a picture of it: http://www.dvdnorden.se/_images/prod...otchip_red.jpg I will try translate the description too: "One of the market's most stable chip for V9 (50004) consoles! The new fast booting mode is faster than any other chip on the market! Fully compitable with PS2 DVD-R/CDR/HK SILVER back-up Low 3.3 V power consumption The "color reproduction" is corrected for PAL/NTSC-games An "I.C" solution for 100% stability ~Gold has been used in the leading components Direct boot on every PS2 discs. Even DVD9! Direct boot on every PS1 discs. Compitable with Action Replay 2 and Gameshark codes" (The store's homepage (Swedish): http://www.dvdnorden.se/product.asp?...907&CtgID=1129) It's somewhat an unclear description, at least for me, but I must add that they say elsewhere on the site that it's supposed to play all back-up's and import's (PS2/PS1). I don't really get what manufactor it is, but this is what they wrote: "Manufactor: ThirdParty RH" ( ) ottoman: I'm affraid I don't have any PS1 originals for the moment, so I haven't tried that yet. /Pedalen |

Oh darn it man! Well seeing to the rules of this forum we cant help you any further, because it seems that you are using pirate copies of ps1 games. Let us know when you have originals and real backups of the games you own to try. Sorry but I now have to close this thread. Tyler! |
