Confused about which copy protection is being used?

Cossacks - European Wars is the game and GCW states that the protection is:

VOB & SafeDisc v2 [AoW AddOn] (from http://t3.gcwasia.com/games/pc_cossacks.shtml)

But then *** says it's something different again (from http://*************.com/gp/gamefixe...ropeanwars.htm).

So my questions are:

How do I know which it is for sure?
What is the best program to use for identifying copy protections - is it Protection-ID or is there something better?
Do I have to install the game before using Protection-ID?

Thank you kindly ;)

Maybe you can find help here.

Get Protection ID or/and A-Ray Scanner to scan.

If the protected files on the disc are wrapped in an installation package, sometimes the game has to be installed to identify the protection correctly.

regional protection. different countries have different protections for this game.

VOB is prolly used in the .de version of the game because it´s a german developer who´s working on VOB.
english version should be safedisc.

Thanks everyone for that :)

...and as for that makeabackup d/base, it states that Cossacks: EW uses Laserlock, while G-B-W says it's ProtectCD & CD Checks, while Protection-ID detects it as being Codelok. So that's 6 different types for the one game

Anyhow, I'll figure it out..thanks again.
