can the dirty disc error by fixed with a new dvd rom

if you get the dirty disc error on your xbox (when you put in a dvd game or movie it says that the disc is dirty and needs cleaning even if its perfectly clean) can it be fixed by simply putting in a new dvd rom. im pretty shure it can but im not 100% shure

If the original disk has this problem, then yes a new dvd-rom will fix it, as long as it is not in just as bad of shape (thompson drives are bad). A laser replacement should also do the trick.

I would, however, recommend a pot tweak before buying a new dvd-rom.

whats a pot tweak?

JiveTurkey 24-06-2004 23:51

I always tweak my pot! :D (laser adjustment)

I gotta defend my Thompson though. It's taken a lickin and kept on tickin. (so far)

noname440 25-06-2004 00:09

do you know a good guide on lazer adjustments

JiveTurkey 25-06-2004 00:27

Yeah it's laid out pretty plain and simple at the holy storehouse of Xbox knowledge that is xbox scene. Judging from your previous attempts at modding you might want to seek some help before you attack anything else though. ;)

Another thing to try is to delete any saved games you have, this can be a conflict that may stop certain games from playing. Have done this previously & it has worked.

Heh, it is true, but the game would freeze instead of a "dirty disk" error. An example of one would be Kotor. Corrupted saves aren't just a memcard thing anymore. Although, this rarely happens.

It happened with my nephews AFL Premiership game, i found that suggestion on here & it worked. We spent a week trying to work out if it was media or something else. Deleted saved games, problem solved.
