how do i tell if my ps2 is v1v2 v3 4v etc
how do i know whether my ps2 is a v1 v2 v3 v4 etc, does it go by the serial number or what ?

Serial numbers and physical features, and if your in an NTSC country, datecode. If not, you don't have to worry about the Datcode as it isn't present. There are lots of posts on this, try a search...
