installing ps2 hdd

hey guys i have a dms2 chip installed in my ps2 and i wanna add a hdd now, i read around and i heard that u need drivers and all that mumbo jumbo stuff. so that means i cant just plug it in and expect it to work properly? if i do need drivers what drivers do i need so that the ps2 can recognize the hdd. or better yet is there a tutorial on how to properly do this step. i heard that maxtors are best choice for ps2 compatibility ..is this true? if so, whats the highest i can go on a maxtor? thanx guys in advance!!!

Well you don’t need any drives, and since you have a DMS3 chip using a third party HDD should be easy for you. If you go to the DMS3 web site they have a format tool that you can install to your memory card and load it to format it like it was an official HDD. I have yet to actually do this my self but I do believe that’s all you would need to do.

*EDIT*: Here maybe this link will help you out some.

for some reason that link didnt work....oh well. so i have to do is load the software to my memory card and go to the d velution mode and select the program and the program will start to format the hdd? also is maxtor the best choice when it comes to compatiblity issues or are there other brands besides this one that will work better or just as good?

Well like I said, I haven’t actually tried it yet, but that’s what I understand it’s supposed to do. As for selecting one HDD over another, from what I understand Maxtor’s are recommended mainly because they line up with the network adapter the best.

Well you want to format the HDD so download the one that has format in the name. Or down load them all they are all useful.

*EDIT*: click on tools then DMS-HDD-FORMAT-1_0.ZIP

IBM drives are great too - that's what I have in mine at the moment. I had it left over from an old PC. I don't think 40GB is quite big enough though, particularly if this HDLoader thing works... ;)
