Xbox and PS2 as DVD players
im having trouble with the ps2 playing my dvd movie backups. my very first back up i did works perfectly with both systems. so i thought, great it works on both. i use the xbox as my primary player anyways. just recently i tried a later back up and it wont work for the ps2 but it works without a hitch on the xbox. so i went through all my back ups and only like 3 disks are compatible with both systems. (they were one of the first backups ive done) im new at this and everything i have learned at it this site. im doin Anydvd + CloneDVD2 + Alcohol%120. make the iso then burn it. this is what i ended up with. but i dont remember what i used when i started learning. maybe some ripping demos? i also have nero 6 and record now max (mostly to making ps2 back-ups, record now doesnt seem to like the xbox, nero does ok. when i would use these i would the simple "wizard" (easy) loading) i have version scph-3001 ps2 (flip-top magic boot method, just installed the hard disk so the system got "updated"). the xbox is newer bought it around christmas havent got the time to mod it yet. anyways is there a proven method for making backups that are universal. for both ps2 and xbox? and possibly for set top players also?
thank you in advance - your pupil - tHe kurze |
Ok, see the main problem is more than likely that your ps2 laser is going out. PS2 lasers are crap. They only last for so long and using PS2's as dvd players only shorten their life.
What is recommended is getting yourself a $45 APEX dvd player and using that strictly for your dvd playing. Tyler! |
i dont think its the ps2 laser. its plays games and movies just fine with out skipping or errors. and back ups of both but just a few of the very first back up movies ive done. ive been thinking about it and i think it might be one of the shareware programs i was using in combination to experiment...... but cant remember which ones.

Are all the backup movies your testing on the same brand of discs?
Tyler! |
yes thats right ive been using the same brand for years verbatim dvd-r. since back in the psx their perfect for ps2 games to. i use them becuase their $49.99 in sams club for a pack of 50. burn at 2x.

Yes I know which ones your talking about. I personally had problems with them. But only via burning.
You say you think the ps2 laser is fine because it plays games and movies. Do you mean original games and movies? Because backups are less reflective than pressed "original" discs are. Do you happen to know what version ps2 you have? Tyler! |
Try using RITEK Dye DVD-R, that should sort it out, i know loads of ps2's that have ended up choosy, they start off fine playing bukrap and yellows etc, but after a while the laser deteriates, and only likes riteks, its worth a shot, as riteks are like 30-40p each now.

Thats basically what I was trying to tell him but it seems he doesnt believe that it could even possibly be his ps2 laser.
I think it could be a little bit of denial. Tyler! |
lol Denial! i dont think im denying, at least i hope not. anyways kinda figured it out. did a update check on hardware and software on my system and updated the firmware on burner. its a pacific digital i know its crap but bought it for $80 at sams club (8xdvd+r 6xdvd-r) well they update the firmware almost every month. and found out anydvd wasnt updated. i think i might have downgraded thinkin it was an update, becuase when i just recently updated new tabs and option were open. and probably using the trial when i first started. well now the new backups work. but being curiuos i started experimenting with my old back up and the new working backups. first i tried it on a version 9 ps2
and with the old back ups it gave me an error. then with the new working backups it started spinning and went in warp speed and started sounding like it was taking off to the moon or something. i quickly turned it off before liftoff. anyways figured out ps2 doesnt like verbatim dvd MOVIE backups. verbatim does great with ps2 GAME backups. so whats this ritek dye you recommended Mister? and what other media should i try to determine which is compatible with both? oh and thanks again guys. Much appreciated! |
Glad you figured things out. Do a google search for Ritek DVD-R and purchase those. They work great on ps2.
