factors affect burning speed?

Can anyone tell me the factors that affect burning speed of dvd and cd burner?

i asked this because i can't burn my cd at speed higher than 24x and dvd at max speed of 2x while my dvd burner is 8x and cd burner is 52x

Thanks

Often the drive will analyse the ATIP of the blank disk which contains info on dye type, manufacturer and burn speeds. It then won't let you burn any faster than the stated maximum speed in order to get the best reliability.
Try buying 4X or 8X rated media for your dvd burner

Also, defragment your hard drive in order to speed up the seek times, close all running programs that are CPU and/or memory hoggers, and maybe install some more RAM. These factors can also have a bearing on the speed.

Thanks for ur reply

My blank dvd-r is 1-4x but when i tried to burn at 4x, it says "cant burn at 4x due to drive restriction"

is it because of my HDD? its 120Gb and 8MB of buffer

wat is the buffer for? does it affect the speed?

thx
i guess i asked too much didnt i?:)

that means your drive cannot burn this media at 4x.
try looking for a firmware update. these often increase the media compatibility.
dvd burners are more restricitive about the media as normal cd burners.

thanx for ur infor

are the firmware free?
If they r free, my dvd burner is LG: GSA-4082B, do u know where to get the firmware for it (i said if they r free)? i tried to look at the LG website but found nothing

thx again

yes, normally firmware updates are free.

the lastest version for your drive can be obtained here

http://us.lgservice.com/jsp/common/d...p&FILE_GUBUN=B

please follow the instructions given in the readme or you can render your drive useless.

I tried to install it, now my drive is A204 but the speed is still the same, i cant change it, only 2x.

If it says "the source data from the drive is too slow" then wat is the problem? i just changed my HDD to 120Gb 8MB to burn at high speed but it seems to be useless.:(

thx

check the device manager if the hdd is running in DMA mode (if its a IDE drive).

Thanks for ur time Eagle

I checked in windows but i couldnt find where it says DMA or not so i went to bios but it has many modes, included ultraDMA4,ultraDMA5... i tried ulDMA5 but doesnt look like its improved the speed tho:( (before i changed it, its in auto mode)
