Question about 30001 Series...
Hi, just signed up...
Anyways, I have the SCPH-30001 Series PS2 (one of the first that came out), and recently, I cannot play half of my games, nor DVDs, and I don't dare try to play any PSX games in it (I have a PS1 for that purpose)... Can someone tell me if there was some major problems with the lenses/disc system in these models? Whats the latest revision out now? I hope I'm posting this up in the right forums ;) |
Well that model number could be anything from a V1-V4. Have a look at my site, there is a PS2 version identification page that will help you determine what it is, and yes all V1-V4 PS2's came from Sony with crappy lasers. You might be able to get Sony to repair it for free (since they did have a class action lawsuit concerning their crappy lasers) if you contact them directly. But in the end your still going to have a crappy laser even if they do replace it with a new one (which they may not, they may just clean and adjust it) its still going to be KHS-400B laser that will burn out on you again. But it will at least give you another year or maybe 2 depending on how often you use it and the quality of the media you use.
The newest version of the PS2 is the V9/V10 and it’s having its own unique issues. You may in the long run just be better off purchasing a new PS2. Good luck! |
Thats what I figured, I'll probably do that..
Thanks... |
