I like CloneDVD2.

CloneDVD 2 is WAY better then X Copy but, if you use 321Gone (a free thing that gets rid of the anoying backup screen @ the beginning of a backup movie then Plat can have its benefits (such as individual chapter compression)

Personally though, I like to use DVD Decrypter, with DVD Shrink and Nero. If you don't have and don't want to buy Nero then, u can use DVD Decrypter to burn the .ISO image of the DVD you are backing up which makes it so you can get completely free DVD Backup.

I would go with clone. Platinum still has a few bugs.

but you can't really get a DVD9 movie onto two blank DVD-Rs with CloneDVD2 can you? well.. you can manually split it.. but that's kind of tricky sometimes with several movies i hear..

DVDFab is also quite a good piece of software.. pity about the second disc missing the menu system

TylerDurden 16-04-2004 05:42

Why the hell would you want it to do that? There is really no need.

because when you shrink a DVD9 movie to fit onto one DVD5 disc you'll of course loose the picture quality!?!?!?

TylerDurden 16-04-2004 16:20

People can afford to loose some of it. They are purposefully over-enflated most of the time. You can also rip out trailers to other movies that will help out with less of a compression.

well.. alright.. some people may just settle for worse picture quality.. but if i wanted to backup something.. i'd like to have 'all of it' in terms of how it's supposed to look..
but you are right sometimes.. some movies could probably be compressed without noticing much difference.. but i'm thinking more old movies or 'slow moving movies' that don't have either a great amount of detail or fast scenes..

it's like if you were to backup PS2 or X-Box games.. and be forced to play it in a lower resolution from the original.. any bets you wouldn't like that would you?

TylerDurden 16-04-2004 16:28

If I had a choice to split something onto 2dvdr or compress, Id compress.

Why would you want to have to get up and put in another disc right in the middle of a movie?

you cannot possibly be that lazy.. so if you had to go to the toilet.. you'd just sit there and wet yourself.. cause you don't wanna get up and walk a metre or two.. besides.. get your girlfriend or someone else to change it if you're that lazy..

or do what i do.. press eject on the remote.. dvd ejects.. get up and walk 2 metres.. roughly around 3-4 steps and open DVD case and swap DVDs and walk back.. it takes roughly 5 seconds or something.. and is good exercise that you wouldn't have done if you were to sit there for 2 hours on your butt..

Congratulations, youve pissed me off.
