Upgrading my xbox
I currently have an xbox with a executor 2 chip in it. Everything works fine except for some reason some of the current games don't work, eg. lotr rotk and i asked the man who installed the chip and he said he could update the bios and fix the problem for AU$25. Is that a good deal or is it simple to fix? Also i'm getting sick of burning games and want to update to a larger hdd. The man who installed my xbox chip offers to do the installation from AU$200 which includes installing EvoX as well as an 80 gig hdd. Is this a good deal? I have a friend with evoX, is it possible to transfer it from his to mine? I have fairly competent computing expereince, is the man trying to rip me off and should i do the installations myself? Thanks for your time :)

i think the guy is trying to take the piss out of u to be honest!
you can flash the bios yourself through evox and installing a xbox hard drive is really easy to do if u have no computer experience so if u have some u will have no problems :) remember to check the xbox hard drive page here so that u get yourself a drive that is lockable if u want to use xbox lame (oops i mean xbox live lol) also remember that xbox-scene is a godsend when it comes to xbox info |
Yah, sort of a con. There is an evox disk around that will format, upgrade your bios, and install a bunch of apps for you. It is called "slayers auto installer" (2.5 was the newest, last i heard).
The file is very large, but if you haven't much knowlege on upgrading, you may want to get it (like 100mb). |
Thanks for all the help. I got slayers evox and installed it and it seems to be working fine. I just have a few queries. I tested copying a game to the hd and it worked and i can play it, but i can't delete it. When i go to hd management it says something like 'you chip does not support this feature' or something. Also, I have a executor2 with bios 4900 (around there anyway). Should i be worried about updating the bios? The warning message kinda scared me off it cause i'm not too sure what i'm doing. I had a look through the readmes but i can't seem to make heads or tails of it. Any help would be great. Thanks for your time.

Just another few things that might help. I have a version 1.1 xbox. And the X2 chip is 4976 02 256. Should i worry about backing up the bios? Should i just update it? Which option should i use? I take it the 256 stands for 256kbs? Any help would be great.

I would update bios, just to stay current. If you want to delete a game, try loading up boXplorer and deleting the folder manually.

Ok, i will update the bios. I'm just a little confused as to which option to select. I've read that the v1.0 and v1.1 xboxs usually have a 1meg bios and i'm pretty sure mine is a v1.1 (using the serial number and some guides). But on my x2 chip, the last 3 digits are 256? Does this mean its 256kb? not 1 meg? Sorry if the answer is staring me in the face, i just don't wanna screw up my xbox.

you have the external bios switch board, right? Has an led glowing. And has bios select/chip off/write protect options.
Your chip is supposed to look like this: http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips/x..._pictures.html You can either have a 1mb bios or a 512k bios on it. The x2 4983 are multi, so it will work in a 1.1 xbox as well as a 1.0. |
Ok, i'm not sure exactly what version of x2 it is (i got a guy to install it for me), but it does have a switch which can turn off the chip. So that means I have a 1 meg bios or a 512 one right? Ok, then what bios option in slayer auto installer should i choose?
