Fixed Exe stealing CD Keys?

Have the no cd exe been tested to make sure they don't steal your CD Keys? I'm new here and just wondering.

gh0sth@cker 22-03-2004 14:12

You can rest assured they will not steal your cd-keys

D-Slash 22-03-2004 16:13

I usually agree with stuff like that but how can I know for sure. Wait wait maybe I don't fully understand. Do the people of gamescopyworld make the no cd keys or do they accept them from unknown sources?

ash2dust2 22-03-2004 16:46

key
Its always a concern of mine too. There are specific viruses that will steal software keys. So anythings possible. I virus scan everything before I execute.

At least with most publishers, they'll give you a new cdkey if yours is compromised.

D-Slash 22-03-2004 16:59

whoa virus scanning it works? I thought they could just embed it in the exe? anybody else have comments?

George_K 22-03-2004 17:50

Sure, virus's can be embeded within an exe but any decent antivirus prog can scan within that exe!

ash2dust2 22-03-2004 22:22

yah, but if it doesnt spread itself, the key stealer could fly under the anti-virus radar.

orion731 23-03-2004 20:15

Wow this all seems crazy to me....I'm not saying I believe it or I don't but if it is stealing CD keys wouldn't it have to send it back to the source via internet...wouldn't norton autoprotect or something similar catch this.... just wondering.

guod 24-03-2004 13:10

most anti-virus software rely entirely on "hitlists".. (or "virus definition lists") signatures of the viruses they have encountered before..

if the virus is new, it's not on their list. if it's not on their list, it's unlikely that it gets detected.

a virus scanner is a protection against 'old' threats.

99% come from outside gamecopyworld.

D-Slash 25-03-2004 14:24

is there certain user names people can trust? I mainly use stuff by DEViANCE. Any reported stolen CD key thefts from his NO CD hacks?

RincewindTheWiz 25-03-2004 16:27

Look, cracker groups will NEVER steal cd keys. First, they don't need your key to play online themselves. Most of them simply BUY the game. Second, their reputation is the ONLY valuable thing they have. If a group member pulled a stunt like this, not only would he be forcibly expelled but I bet he'd get some freaky stuff happen to him.

You really want to know who's stealing cd keys ? Cheaters and the guys who make online cheats. Really, I have knowledge of at least a few real cheat developers doing this, and a hundred thousand cheat users who name some random executable "CS Aimbot" and include a trojan to steal your cd key. Multiplayer cheaters have consistently proven that they would cheat their own grandma if they had the chance, and since the massive bans in CS and battle.net began, they are the ones who need as much valid keys as they can get since they're the ones who lose their keys because of their own inability to play the game without cheats.

Cheaters are the bottom feeding scum suckers of the online world, but most of all they're about as reliable and trustworthy as Saddam Hussein with a bad Crack habit. Just stay away from those and you'll probably do fine, although I'd be wary of cracks too if you find them on an unreliable medium like Kazaa.

D-Slash 25-03-2004 16:53

Okay then. I only dl stuff off gamescopyworld. so I'll be fine I think.

krondike 25-03-2004 21:35

That's true, RincewindTheWiz.
A PR message, from Bioware, said, that there was a group that was stealing cd-keys. The group claim that, BioWare had problem with CD-KEY storage, please reply to this message and retype the cd-key so we can fix this problem. (BioWare have cd-key in there forums). And BioWare have to do a massive warning, in mail and on the forum. Think many people was falling for that mail, and that's isn't a mail from a serius cracker or hacker, it's a mail from a ****ing a$$hole group that's think they are cool and greatest ****ing group in the univers. Well deal with this stupid group, I DIDN'T recived the MAIL! :p

Luciel 26-03-2004 10:50

ahaha i received that mail, and im sory to say that the ones who felln for it deserve it for stupidity, it says VERY CLEAR when u join them that they WILL NEVER ASK for cd keys, so never means never, end of story. :)
