Hooking up PS2 to my computer questions
My car was broken into the other day, and all my CDs were stolen, among other things. So now, I've decided I'm not going to keep the original CDs in there anymore. I'm just going to make copies and keep those in my car.
The point? I don't have a second CD drive, and I was wondering if I could turn my PS2 into one. I notice the USB jack in the front. If I get a USB cable to go from the PS2 and my computer, would my computer recognize it as an external CD drive? Thus, being able to read data off of the CDs so I could just copy the CD easily? I'm just doing this for music CDs. I only have a CD burner, and I don't even have a DVD drive at all. I wouldn't need any mod chips for this to work, would I? I'd have tested this myself by now, but I don't have a proper USB cable, so I wanted to see if this'd work before I went out and bought one for no reason. |
You don't need a second Cd drive to make a copy. Just save it to the hard drive in a temp file then burn it. Nero and other CD burning software do this already for you.

Yeah seriously, You don't need a second cd drive, ... you make an image of the cd/dvd to your pc, then burn the image onto cds.
I do that exact method to back-up PS2 Games/Music Cds. |
Well, yeah, but that's not the point. I'd like to do this without taking up hard drive space, plus speed up the whole process. Because I have about 100 albums to copy. That'll take time, obviously. But less if I just use two drives.
Plus I just tried to make an image of a CD, but it appears I don't have the option to make an image of a CD drive. |
You don't make an image of the cd drive, you make an image (iso) of the actual cd. Hard-drive space shouldn't really be an issue since music cds are tiny compared to PS2 games (Which I backup often)
RecordNow Max, is an excellent program to burn your music cds. I doubt the entire idea of using your PS2 as a secondary drive for your PC is going to work out. |
Ugh, Audio CD’s are so obsolete! You could fit all 100 albums on just a few DVD-R’s if you convert to MP3 format. Or less than 10 CD-R’s.
