version 9 installation problems?
 

how do you connect points b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i in the back of the mother board in a ps2 version 9. i am installing a magic v (k). i have never seen points in a ps2 this small.

Nice to see you back. If your talking about the little flat copper points then all you really have to do is use a fiberglass pen to brush off the laquer till the copper parts are brighter. Then just touch it with a little bit of flux and now you can easily solder to them.

The VIA"s are VERY small on the v9, If you have never modded a console you may want to get a pro. As Tyler said, use a fiberglass pen to brush off the laquer, Prep the board by applying a little flux to the work area, then pre-tin each VIA with a small amount of solder turning the tiny hole you see into a small solder pad. Then attach the wires.BTW, The VIA's are sensitive to heat, use caution ;)

i have installed about 5 chips, but i have never seen points this small, like the ones on a version 9. should i scratch the back of the mother board where the points go?
all i need to do is connect the back points in the ps2 for a magic v(k). if anyone has a special method, please let me know.:confused:

i know about the vias, but the problem is that these ones are super small and you can't even see the copper part.

Its basically the same as the copper pads. Just polish off that varnish and solder to them. Remember the flux.

I prefer to use a fine drill bit instead of the fibreglass pencil. Get one that fits into the via & rotate it gently a few times. This provides a great key for the solder, but most importantly, means you are not uncovering the tracks (which is possible when you scratch the entire area with a pencil).

You can then safely & confidently lay the rest of your wires flat against the tracks without fear of bridges. Its also very helpful when the vias are totally oscured with paint!

Obviously you don’t know about the vias as that is what I was referring to in the thread I directed you to. This is a picture of vias soldered to on a V10 which are just as small at the V9's but closer together.

@Hull_chipper I'm not trying to knock your drill bit method in any way as I haven’t tried that method, but isn’t there the chance that you could actually drill out the via? To clean out the hole it’s self after I have scraped it lightly with my exacto blade I just use a needle which I guess performs the same task as your drill bit. Also scrapping lightly with the blade wont expose the tracks like the fider glass pen also. It just seams kind of hairy sticking a bit in there and turning it. But really any of these methods could result in damage if not done with caution. Hey also Hull_chipper did you get my last PM get back to me in PM if you can.

Hell I hadn't thought of that lol! Normal rules apply when dealing with via's, you dont need to apply any pressure, the task is to scratch the top not dig into it.
