Magic 3 crossed wires

I recently had my Ver 7 PS2 chipped with what turns out to be a Magic 3.0 clone. After a lot of problems and a laser replacement the chip seems to be working. However the Z and the A wires were crossed over (ie Z connected to A and vice versa) when I took delivery of the modded PS2 and inspected the wiring but it worked!! Now with the laser replaced and the wires connected as it came it still works. Can anyone answer why it should work with the wires wrongly connected? - as its driving me up the wall! Have tried asking this in other forums and had no one with a clue!
Any help would be gratefully received.

Crossed wires

Thanks for the advice (am already considering a different chip but will probably fit it myself this time). The saga is longer than the brief post i submitted in that I disconnected the chip as part of the troubleshooting and also reconnected the wires as per the Magic installation diagram but have ended up reconnecting it as it had been originally delivered as it seemed to work best this way - but I just cant work out what connecting A to Z and vice versa should do!
I have tried to attach a photo of the wiring as supplied and you will see why I have little faith in the guy who chipped the PS2.
Surely someone can tell me whether A to Z matters - or not?
Many thanks,

(If the jpeg doesnt attach I will try zipping and repost)

okies upload it in your own webspace and post a hyperlink.

seaneyb2003 07-03-2004 09:03

oh yea who was your installer does he have a site or email addy?

johnboy183 07-03-2004 11:53

No he doesn't advertise (as far as I'm aware) but he is in the Newcastle on Tyne area and is a friend of my Computer Manager so it's all a bit awkward. I think if you note that he was very reluctant to rectify the problems, charged £70 for the install, used a Magic 3 clone and you see the install you will see why I would avoid him in future and not put business his way.
Now if you will explain to a poor non browser literate guy what you mean by "uploading to my own webspace and posting a hyperlink" in non techy terms I will certainly give it a try as I would like the world to see (and comment!) on the install!

Magic out Duo in

Taken your advice and have just taken delivery of a Duo chip so it's out with the Magic and in with the Duo as soon as I get time to do it. I will also replace the wiring!
Used UKmodchips.biz to make sure I didn't get any more clones! Service and delivery first class and it's definatelly an original - thanks for the advice.
