having v7 problems

i have tried to mod 3 different v7's with 3 different magic 3.1 chips and get the same result every time. they will play ps1 backups and originals, backed up movies on -/+ dvdr's, and ps2 originals. they won't play ps2 backups. i know the backups are good cause they work in a v10. i am using tdk dvdr- and dvd+r.
i am using a nec 1300a burner with nero 6 (not express).the ps2'2 are all scph-39001 but with 3 different mobos gh-017, gh-022, gh-023. any thoughts or help would be greatly appriciated.

Be sure to keep the wires as short as possible, use 22awg for power and ground, 30 for everything else. Recheck all contact points for bridges or perhaps a crossed wire. You may also want to trash the magic 3.1 for a duo or Apple Pro. The magicV is a Great chip but the magic 3.1 had alot of bugs.

Places that i have seen have the Magic5 alot cheaper then the 3.1.

The duo works flawlesly and less wires to solder. I have 2 V7 chipped and the Magic V was harder to get it working.

the duo works good but not flawlessly, you will see a few red screens when trying to boot from browser.

This is true but only if the laser is tired. The same can be said for most chips though.

i have checked the boards under a microscope and didn't see any bridges. the wiring has been checked and rechecked. maybe the chips are junk.
big thanks for the help/advice maybe i'll order a couple of duo chips and give that a try.

True the magic 3.1 isnt the most reliable modchip but the odds of you getting 3 bad chips in a row isnt likely.Try a Duo or a Apple Pro, www.norcalmods.com has Apple Pro's for $10 bucks.
