v4 PS2 won't start up

I got a V4 No-Gap PS2 and yesterday I installed a Magic 3.1 in it. It wouldn't run any cds/dvds the first time but would come on only the graphics in the main menu wouldn't move the ball was centered so I opened it again and found that a few wires had popped of the point. I resoldered everything and tried it again still same problem so today I desoldered the modchip and shortened some cables and checked to make sure each cable was right with a multimeter and everything seemed to be fine but after putting it back together this time there's no video at all. The main thing that wasn't working correctly in it each time was the laser when I put in a cd/dvd original or backup instead of making the loading sound that usually happens at first it would make a clicking sound. Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

A v4 wouldnt have been my first choice in ps2s to chip. Nor would a Magic 3.1 been the chip I would have wanted in my ps2.

Kinda working with what I got here had the magic 3.1 for a while now only got around to install it

Well, I would recommend completely uninstalling that chip. Then make sure the ps2 works like it did originally.

Then just shell out about $19 for the Duo modchip and install that instead. Its only 17 wires and works a HELL of a lot better than the Magic 3.1.

Zelos, what kind of clicking sound ? a buzzing sound or a click...click.. click sound ? I would take out the chip and use a magnifying glass on the bios pins.. and the cd/dvd chip ( I,G,H,D,B,C,A ) make sure you hve no bridged solder on these pins. Test a original ps2 game. Post your updates so we can help you. :)

a click click click sound I took a magnifying glass but found all connections fine. I did however take the modchip out earlier and the ps2 works fine again tested and original cd and dvd game and a dvd movie all running fine. I did have all the wires super-glued across the chips could this have done it I remember reading about it but not quite sure. In any case I'll try to have anonther crack at it tomorrow.

:D PSYCHED!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOO!!! I got the modchip working however I now suspect that I had it right the second install because for some unknown reason the ps2 will only play the cheapest crappiest dvd-r's you know which ones im talking about *PRINCO!!!* It will not play good media no matter how many times I try although it does play originals fine. also sometimes it just goes to a black screen no video or sound so if anybody (Espicially N£TM£ÇH) on how to remedy this problem. Oh btw if it makes a difference I did drop the CD-rom a bit the first time I opened the ps2 and I also unplugged it from the mobo.

try some digtal matrix they make PRINCO's look like #1 quality disk lol these things suck i cant even play moives or games on them

thats very odd zelos.. i mod 10 systems a week a and have come by many v4's with magic 3.1 . I would suspect the burning of the games. Riteks work perfect on all versions for me, how are you going about burning your backups?

zelos 14-03-2004 06:55

I use Recordnow Max and on my v7 system with magic 3 installed the games i'm trying work perfect, although, I use princo for one game and no problems. I found it odd as well as I would think if I accidently did something to the laser it would make the crappy media not work so well...

I found out what the problem was I had dropped one of the small screws and it fell onto the box containing the lase (which is magnetic) it works perfect now which is great after screwing around with it for a total of 15-16 hours lol
