Burning at 8x

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me out. I have never burned a dvd before but am told I won't have a problem using my platinum dvd x-copy program. The problem is, I got a brand new Plextor 708-A drive that burns at 8x dvd+R. Because that is the fastest way to burn right now, I want to get media so I can burn at 8x DVD+R. The problem is, under "support" on the Plextor webpage, it lists all the 'recommended' media for my 708-A drive, and which ones can burn at 8x. Well I'll be damned, but I searched for hours EVERYWHERE for a 25 pack or more of cd's that can burn at 8x DVD+R's, and I could not find them anywhere, on any site. The only thing I kept coming across was Ritek 8x, and that was not one of the recommended brands. Now am I missing something, or what? Where can I get a pack of (4.7g is it?) 8x media that would allow me to make 1:1 full (including menu's) DVD burns? Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. The only blank cd media I ever DID see was a measly 5-pack offered on the plextor web site: http://www.plextorshop.com/product.asp?sku=2446921

It's only a five-pack, and they want an unheard average of $3.00 a cd.

Ritek is the best you can get and should work fine with your burner. Look here . Claims to work fine with your burner.

Oh ok

Well thanks so much for your help. Since I have your attention, let me bug you with one more question. Given my drive and backup program (Xcopy platinum), which program would be best for me to use to eliminate any copy protection that's built into the DVD's I am trying to copy? Thanks in advance........

did you specifically look for 8x blanks?

the plextor burns all the 4x rated blanks at 8x speed. so look for 4x blanks recommend by plextor. ritek, ricoh, mitsubishi (verbatim) usually work very well. with cheaper media e.g. princo its mostly not good to fire them with 8x speed.

one program that no DVD movie copyer should be without is "DVD Decrypter" dont worry it freeware

I could be wrong I dont think 8x speed discs are on the market yet but the slower disk you can burn with no problem just at one or two speed or four speed

at least verbatim has genuine 8x blancks
