Setting the region

Hi... noone has explained to me the thing about setting the region on the DVD burner. I just ran in to this text on the net: You have 5 times in Windows to set it to one of the 6 regions. When you have 1 more region setting left make sure you pick the correct one that your collection of DVDs is in.

But there must be a way to make it region code free? I got a NEC ND-2500A that i havn't picked up from the package yet.

hmm... i just found something... it seems like the best thing would be to get a new firmware? but if i can get around that i will... don't realy trust thouse hacked firmwares...

i found a program called "DVD Region-Free" ( http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm ) that seems to make all other appz think the drive is region code free (RPC-1). Has anyone tested this app? Whats the diffrent between this app and AnyDVD ( http://www.slysoft.com/ ) ? Iv'e never used AnyDVD, will AnyDVD make the DVD completly region free also? So I don't have to choose region on the DVD at all?

thnx for al good advices!

usually there is nothing wrong with hacked firmwares (you can 'trust' them...).
but you _always_ risk to fry your drive and you lose the warranty.

jea... its not that i refuse to change firmware... but it seems like a good idea not to flash the drive, if i don't have to... i've installed AnyDVD now, and it seems to work perfekt! :) i havnt choosed wich region i want my dvd to be yet (5 changes left), but when i use AnyDVD it simulates that i have choosed region 2, and that i have 4 changes left. But what happends if i put in a region 1 disk? do i have to change the settings in AnyDVD then?

And as I understand AnyDVD prevents the programs to read the actual settings? what happends then if i make a 1:1 direkt copy of a DVD5 ? does the copy get the region settings and so on from AnyDVD, or from the actual DVD?

Eagle 01-03-2004 14:08

no, the copy is totally 'clean' of all restrictions and protections!

ok! thats nice! :) but what happens if i put a region 1 disk in right now, when the region in anydvd is set to region 2? do i have to change the setting in anydvd?

Eagle 01-03-2004 14:29

the region you set in anydvd is for software only. the software (e.g. powerdvd, clonedvd) will only see the region you set in anydvd although the actual dvd may have a different region.

but if your hardware (dvd-drive) is not region-free i think the drive will change the region leaving you only 4 changes left.

ok! so now i know more exactly how it works :) thnx mate!
