long movies

is there a way to compress long movies to be able to fit into 1 dvd-r? i am using dvd shrink 3.1 and im trying to copy matrix reloaded but the most i can get the compression to is 72.9% on automatic. with no compression the dvd is 5,944 mb. do i have to split this into 2 dvd-r's?

Consider using CloneDVD to completely delete other bonus type tracks on your dvd.

Otherwise you may have to split it.

i used dvd shrink and reauthored it so that only the main movie and its audio would be on the dvd.

TylerDurden 19-02-2004 19:53

Ok.

no, im saying i did that and it was still too big, which led to my post. is the only thing left i can do is to split it?

TylerDurden 19-02-2004 20:31

I always use CloneDVD, itll show you the exact percentage the reencoding will be. I dont use DVDShrink.

dvdshrink will compress the film to fit on one dvd (film only)

If the original is 1 1/2 hours long or less it will not need shrinking just backing up :)

Mandeep 20-02-2004 13:48

yes, but when you compress a 5gb file or more to fit on a cd you are compressing it by 30% in some cases. wouldnt that mean that the quality would be terrible?

FiT 20-02-2004 14:44

not cd, dvd

up to 50% is good enough quality not to notice unless you have got a hi-definition tv.

DJFury 20-02-2004 14:48

50% is NOT good for animation! I tried it with both Beauty and the Beast and Finding Nemo, and the latter half of both movies started looking horrible.

mpro 20-02-2004 14:56

I used DVDShrink to backup Matrix and you are right, even with only the main track, it is still too big.

You need to decide...Compress or split...

DVDShrink can do both.

DJFury 20-02-2004 15:20

But when you split with DVDShrink, it removes the menu function, which I really wanna keep. I'm hoping DVD Xcopy Plat keeps it.

Mandeep 20-02-2004 16:44

did you compress it when you burned matrix? im wondering if the compression changes the quality by a lot

airjack 20-02-2004 23:04

when i have that problem iu use dr divx because i will shrink it down too 6 or 700 meg then i use tmpgenc too transfer it back to dvd try that but if you gotta to rip you can use the dvd shrink but me personality i like using dvd auther to put the vob file back together then use dr divx after dvd author give me a video file and i go throught the step i mention

Mandeep 28-02-2004 11:23

I gave it a shot and burned the dvd with 70% quality meaning 30% compression, and the quality is just as good as the original. I even tried Gladiator which was 2hrs35min and it also came out nicely.
