EvoX baffles me
I don't think from reading my last post I was very clear, sorry.
I haven't yet chipped my Xbox but will do shortly, I wanted to get to grips with FTP from the Box to PC. Can I run EvoX from a disk only without making any changes to my Xbox and FTP to the PC to backup my HDD and a game or two. I say this because I'm not really intrested yet in changing my dashboard because I use Live. Any help will be much appreciated! |
You can, but it requires an action replay or mega-x-key, 007:AUF or Mechassult, and a hacked "evox" gamesave for one of the 2 games. Basically, you load up the game, and then load the hacked savegame. Evox will then start up.
Unfortunately without a modchip to disable the reboot on eject, you cannot copy any game other then the 007/mechassult you have in there. Also, xbox live will not be a problem. Changing the C drive to trick the bios to boot to evox is no longer an issue. Flash you chip with the X2 4981 bios. It disables xbox live just incase you connect on accident, and it looks for "evoxdash.xbe" instead of the xbox dashboard. This means that when your modchip is on, evox will boot up, then you turn it off and the original ms dashboard would boot up. The only thing I would suggest is to turn off the "connect on startup" feature of xbox live. Just in case... |
Thanks for the help, I have been on your site quite a few times in the last few days, very good info there.
I wondered, if I install my chip today and flash it with the X2 4781 bios, then boot the xbox up. What will it do ro look like and what does a mod chip in the Xbox actually do? Sorry for sounding dim but I am new to the Xbox scene as you can tell, I am a PC an d PS2 man normally but have been very slowly converted. |
The chip allows you to install a larger drive, boot backups and other homebrew apps/emulaters/games.
If you were to install the chip, then flash the bios onto it, it will boot to the xbox original dashboard. However, before you do it, turn off autoconnect to live. The bios is supposed to protect it, but you can never be too careful. You don't want to get banned. After you install evox or any other dashboards, it will boot to them (assuming you rename them correctly). They can always be removed. |
Good advice!
I have seen the auto signin under settings last night, I will turn that off first, or have the RJ45 cable removed at least. One other thing I read about 20 mins ago was that the Xecuter 2.2 lite can only be flashed once, can the 2.3b can be reflashed as many times as you need? Oh, last thing before you fall asleep on me. If I install the chip today, and haven't made up my mind what bios. Can I leave that for another day, leave the chip switched off and just use the box as you would from new? or won't it work at all (the Xbox I mean not the chip) |
