this is what the chip does
it boots ps1 orignals and copies
it plays movies
it will boot a ps2 original games only if i hold the reset button down log enough to disable the chip.

it will not boot ps2 oringals or copies cd or dvd.
it will not boot imports.

i got the chip at easybuy2000. there is no sticker on the chip saying what ver of ps2 it is for. i hope they sent the right one??

What version ps2 is this out of? If you are not sure, post your model number.

The first thing I would tell you to do would be to move that chip off the ground plane! Where you have it the heat/RF shield I'm sure could be shorting out those pads on the chip its self. It’s obviously on a V5/V6 board. If there was no sticker on the chip you have the right chip most likely. The install looks pretty good other then where you put the chip. If you have a continuity checker check point T and the pad right next to it, it looks like there is a bridge....might just be the picture though. Do all that first then get back to use. There is more that could be the problem.

By the way ....what kind of camera are you useing that is AWESOME picture quality.

One other thing that looks funny but I cant quite tell is, it looks like you have the Y wire going to V and V going to Y...... am I correct?

EDIT

nope I'm wrong V is right , but I cant tell where Y is going it looks like its looping to the back with the rest of the wires on the back when Y is on the top of the board....??

the camera is a sony cyber shot dsc-s70 3MP.
y is at the top by the gnd.
when it is all together i put tap on the open contacts.
i even tried tuning the ps2 on with just the dvdrom and the chip in the air to see if RF noise was messing with the chip.
i checked the t point with my meter again all is good.
