Any one know what's wrong or who can fix it?

Hello,

Have a PS2 Version 7. Installed a Magic 3.1 but I think I messed up the ribon cable for the reset and eject buttons because for a while there where a few problems with the eject button then one day it just stopped working completely. I tried creating a new cable by soldering on wires to replace the ribon cable but now it doesn't even light up at all. The one thing that I may have done wrong is that I may have got the connections reversed the first time. What may have happened, what can I do to try and fix it and if I can't, is there someone in the Toronto area that does repairs?

Thanks

Jeese man, you soldered it? You coulda just bought a new ribbon cable. See if you can desolder all that youve done and buy a new ribbon cable. A desoldering braid would be good here.

SOmebody on here had told me to do it and it seemed like a good idea. Why wait to get a new cable when you can make a new one and not pay for it. I'm wondering if I screwed something else up in the proccess though.

Who told you to do this??

budica 22-01-2004 15:16

lol, Obviously it wasn't you. I didn't think it would be too hard to do but I must have screwed something up. Has any one else done this before?

budica, you can get a ribbon cable for 5 or 6 dollars. just buy a new one.

budica 22-01-2004 15:57

Ok, I don't think I'm making myself clear here and I don't blame you guys for that. See, the problem isn't that I need to buy a new ribbon cable, the problem is that even though I made a new cable the system just doesn't turn on. I can turn the power on but I don't even get the red reset light.

Now, could this be because you can't make a new cable (even though I have heard of others doing this with success), or that something on the MB is fried?

I think that I should go grab my neighbours multimeter and see if the ribbon cable is even bad to beggin with. If it isn't than I know that I have bigger problems.

to answer your question budica, if you fabricated a new cable (by the way this isnt what I ment in that older post, I ment find the bad track if there was one with your meter wich im guessing you didnt do and jump across it I'll attach a picture showing what I mean) and you crossed some wires you may have blown a fuse. Now this time listen. USE YOUR METER..... and test all the fuses. If one is dead that may be your problem.

LOL, sorry about that. I've always been told that I don't listen enough. Ok, I'll grab the meter tomorow and see what I can find out. If it's a problem with the ribbon I'll order a new one. If not I'll decide when I find out.

Thanks.

Oh and stupid question but where are all the fuses? I know there is one on the power supply but are there more than that?

 OH DEAR!!!

Hey, every body has to start some where right? Well I would rather learn to do things myself than to have other people do it for me all the time.

Life is about learning.
