router.. hub?
i was thinkin..
ive gotten kinda sick of unpluggin my cable connection to connect to my xbox... i have a router right now... i wanna be able to connect to the xbox with still bein connected to the internet.... could i use that? http://evox.xboxhackz.net/evox/guide...etworking.html that says somethin with that how would i do that? ... or do i needa get a hub? |
How many ports do you have on the back of your router? If only one, you will have to get a hub or a switch. Plug a cable inbetween the router and the uplink on the hub or switch, than go from the hub/switch to your PC and to your XBox, easy as that.

i have 5 ports on my router
4 that are grouped and one for uplink... as of right now, two of the grouped are bein used (two different computers) and i put the internet in my uplink... how would i get it so taht i could connect to my xbox without disconnecting to the internet..? what in the uplink.. and what in the grouped section? |
Okay, so you have a total of five ports. Four LAN and one WAN.
Two of the LAN ports are used. So all you have to do is connect your XBox to one of the other two LAN ports and it should be fine. It shouldnt kick you off the net or any thing. |
but then waht do i put in the uplink?
and how do i connect to the xbox? cuz if i were to do that.. itd be the cable connection in the WAN, and two computers and one xbox in the LAN's... ..? |
Thats exactly what it is. The router basically sets network ip's for the PC's and the xbox, then routes the traffic to each other or the internet. Plug the xbox into your router, turn off static IP in the dashboard, and see what the ip gets set to. You should have one. Well, use your pc and connect to it.

and leave my pc set to no static ip right?
