DUO chip...
Ok, Started a new thred couse the old one didn't seem to be so correct topic.
As you know I installed a DUO chip a couple days ago. Now there is some small problems though and I kinda hoped your expert knowledge could help me out abit. The problem I have isn't too big but hey, things should work as they are supposed to.... The problem is that I can't directboot from browser, there will be RSOD. I have tried a PS2 DVD backup. I has to tap reset to get it to boot. I have tried PS1 and DVD movie backup and they boot flawless. It is just that the PS2 DVD backup wont directboot from browser. As I said, not much of a problem couse I can boot it by a little tap on reset. My spec you can see in my sig. Have checked the wires as good as I can and I can't see anything wrong with it but I don't have any multimeter to check if all wires are good. Do you think there is a problem with any of the wires? Can it be that my chip is a problemchip? Well, back to play a bit and then dig deeper in the problem.. |
When I get a chance Ill get ahold of my friend the one I did the install for and Ill ask him to see if he had the same problem.
If anyone else has this problem feel free to post here. Tyler! |
I have seen this happen with The Duo as well as the Apple Pro and other mod chips. Its not the chip normally this happens with a tierd laser that takes a long time to read DVD's ( back ups or originals). This will throw off the timeing of the chip and you will see the RSOD screen. Its good to hear that you can resolve it with a second tap of the reset button.

So you mean that the laser may be tired.
Then the lasers must be just crap in PS2. As you can see I have a V5/6, just used originals until recent. The console is just over a year old. Will try to use a DVD-R with G04 dye soon then we will see if it's just symptom of a cheap media. |

They are. Tyler! |
Yeah, they must be.
It's not acceptable if the lasers gets bad so fast if using only originals. Sony must rethink teir strategy for copyprotection. Can't couse lack functionality on the product in general just to get those bastards that downloads or copy games. |
Damn...that's only me that's stupid enough to not follow the instructions...
It says clearly "push eject, put in disc and close tray by puching eject" did I do that??? no no... just used eject to open the tray then I puched the tray to close... well.. when I did as it said then it worked.... So there is nothing to wrong at all... :D *fells lika a jackass right now* |
There really shouldnt be too much of a difference with pushing in and pressing eject. But maybe if the instructions say to press eject and thats the only way it works, maybe thats what should be done.
Tyler! |
Ok Tyler, it isn't any difference.
I tested to just push the tray and it booted :) It seems to be a timing thing. If you are to slow to put in the game and close the tray then it will be RSOD. If you are quick enough then it will boot. Ok.. I will give you all more info as soon as I discover anything else. |
Keep us posted.

I have also started using the Duo chip for all machines upto & including v7. Now, mine boot direct from the browser with no problems whatsoever, but speaking to dust4dust, he's found that they DON'T boot from the browser (as Dustpuppy has discovered).
Now we both bought our stock from different suppliers, so maybe they have been cloned already! I can't say who we bought them from, but mine came from HK & his from Portugal. Dust now has some of my Duo's so we'll see after xmas whether he encounters the same problem with my supplier, as he did with his. |
Now I'm really confused.
I have tried to boot the game a couple of times and ..... it always works now. If I tap reset it works, it boots from browser.....and it isn't any differences in ig I push the ejectbutton or the tray to close either. Have used all modes on the chip now, can it be that it was in some "middle"state before? Hull_Chipper: I bought mine from modchips.cc |
