HELP!!! CPU usage 100% burns are interrupted

damn it i have the worst luck, the most wierd crap always happens to me!!!! arrggghhh!!!!

sorry, just recently this problem started. what happens is when i try to read any dvdrom it goest sooo slow. i tried RNM and dvd decrypter. what happens is it is always going down to 1x when reading and i couldnt figure it out. i then went to task manager or whatever and i ran it when this was happening.

i found a direct comparison. when the cpu usage went up to 90-100% the reading slowed down when it went down it sped up. its driving me crazy, this wasnt happening before why is it doing this. i have DMA enabled, i tried this on my dvdrom and on my 106, same story!!

it even happens when writing. but when im not doing any read/writing the cpu usage satys at 0% WTF is going on.

please somebody help! i cant burn at 2x or 4x reliably cause the underrun protection keeps kicking in becuase of the cpu usage and my burn are hell slower.

PLEASE HELP ME! WHY do i have the worst luck on earth. seriously i do. i could write a book about all the dodgy things that have happened to me.

Do you have any other programs running?

patch god 23-12-2003 05:22

nah i just open RNM an thats it. when i press ctrl alt delete and task manager comes up it shows heaps of other programs running in the background but none of them are using cpu energy anyway. i cant close them either cause they are system files or something and it wont let me do anything.

You may want to optimize your PC.

Try this, click on start menu, select RUN, type in MSCONFIG. Select startup and uncheck everything except system tray. Restart computer and try again. If it runs normal then it has a conflict with one of the programs running in the background.

patch god 23-12-2003 15:35

i will do that and ill post back in a half hour or so. hope it works something out. this problem wasnt happening before...

patch god 23-12-2003 15:49

i did it. it didnt work. same prob as before. 0% usage and then all of a sudden as soon as i start making an image the cpu usage goes up to 70-90% and the reading is slowed down dramatically.

i close down RNM and the cpu usage drops to 0%. same with any other burning program. any other ideas?

Warlock 23-12-2003 16:02

Sorry man, I hoped that was it. Maybe someone else will post some other ideas. Could be the writer is going bad, anyway hope you get it sorted.

TylerDurden 23-12-2003 16:10

If I understand correctly you say it only happens when your burning right?

Are you using a fresh pack of media or have you been using it?

What firmware is currently flashed to your dvd burner?

patch god 23-12-2003 16:12

but the liteon dvdrom is doing it and the pioneer 106 is doing it. they cant both be going bad. plus my 106 is like brand new!

damn it! i will try some other forums also to increase my chances of fixing it.

BTW, tyler, how do i optomize my PC??

patch god 23-12-2003 16:18

nah it happens when reading and also when writing.

TylerDurden 23-12-2003 16:19

I use Norton to optomize but you can use Windows Defrag. I recommend doing this quite often because when your messing with gigs your hdd drives are gettin hella use.

If when your defraging and it seems to freeze, just close it. Restart your pc, and defrag again. It seems to take forever but this helps sometimes.

I get similar symptoms to yours when I dont optomize in a very long time. Or if Im burning a lot more than usual.

I must tell you this may take a very long time. I sometimes have to do this overnight or longer.

i already defragged last night:eek: i dont think it needs any more defragging since i havent done anything on it.

TylerDurden 23-12-2003 16:30

Dunno man, thats how I fix my probs. I rarely get any probs though.
