About to throw PS2 out the window !!
OK all,
Can you please help my PS2 from being thrown out the window? Here's whats happened. For the last 12 months I have been backing up all the PS2 games I buy in order for them not to be scratched by other family / freinds. But..... several weeks ago I bought "Prince of Persia" and I backed it up as I had done so many times before using either DVD Decryptor or Alcohol 120%. The problem was that the game wouldn't play in the PS2. I just got a Disc Error. Well, I've just bought "Need 4 Speed Underground" and I'm having the same probelm. You may think that the console is playing up but in between backing up these 2 games I also backed up "ManHunt & SSX 3" they works fine ?! Whats going on guys ?!?!!?!? |
Have you tried using RecordNow Max to back up your games? What kind of media are you using?
Please post your hardware, ps2 version, and mod chip? All of this may not be necessary but it does help, in case other members have the same setup, and if they have had sucess in this area, they can help better.;) |
Spec as follows:
Media : Verbatim DVD-R (used for all my backups!!!) PS2 : Version 1 (Bought day of release so I presume 1) ModChip : Messiah 1 (I think ?!) Bakup prcedures: Alcohol 120%, DVD Decryptor, RecordnowMax. and a few other packages. Thanks |
How do I find out the exact version of my PS2 ??
|
How many screw tabs do you have. If you have 10 then you probably got a v1. Also what is your SCPH number.
Im betting that since you have such an old ps2 your lasers is turning crappy (I think Ive told you this before). Anyhow, if your ps2 still plays originals fine I recommend you sell it on Ebay and get most of your money back and just get a new ps2, preferrably an online pack since those are usually v7. Most chips for the v7 are very cheap. Tyler! |
Its says SCPH 30003. Can I not just get the laser replaced with a newer version?
|
You say you got this console on launch date?? Acording to my #'s its a v4.Version 1 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U1"
Version 2 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U0" Version 3 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U2" Version 4 - SCPH-30000, 30001, 35001, 30002, 35002, 30003, 35003, 30004, or 35004, 8 screws on bottom of case Version 5 - SCPH-30000R, 30001R, 30002R, 30003R, 30004R, or 30006R. Also, some SCPH-30000, 30001, 30002, 30003, and 30004 models have a V5/V6 Version 5 & 6 - the difference between these two versions illustrated Version 7 - SCPH-39000, 39001, 39002, 39003, 39004, 39008 or 37000 Version 8 - Only in Japanese consoles. SCPH-39000, or, SCPH-39006 (GH-022 BIOS 090) Version 9 - if you have SCPH-50000, 50001, 50002, 50003, 50004, 50006, or 50007 you have a v9 or v10 board. Version 10 - SCPH-5000x, with date code "3D" to the right and below the serial number on the back of the console. (GH-026 board) |
You can get a new laser but it has to be a v1-v4 laser, which suck. If originals still work I personally would sell it.

1. Sell it as already recommended by both TylerDurden and Bighap on Ebay, then apply money towards a v7 ps2, then go with a DUO chip, which was also recommended by TylerDurden. or 2. You can try to use Ritek brand media and see if you have any luck with them, as they are very reliable and recommended media. Which will not be sucessfull if the laser is wore out and starting to go. Pointless to replace with an older laser, as with an older laser, you only invite more problems and waste time and money. Option 1. is your best choice, as it will prove to be less headache and agravation for you. However the choice is yours. |
Know anyone who wants to buy an old PS2 then !??? LOL
:p |
Im sure someone on Ebay will buy it.
Just leave out the fact that its old, and you might want to clean it up a bit. Maybe even add a game or 2. Tyler! |
 so.. what is your eBay username? This way i know which one not to bid :p
|
I'm not the only one , thats crazy here. :D
You would think that most of them on ebay are probably older versions. If you wanted to buy a ps2, I would check the guys here and get a trusted site to buy from. Cost might be slightly more up front but in the long run, you just might save a buck or 2. To coin a phrase, Ebay is like a Box of Chocolates, you never know what your gonna get. :p |
By the way, dont be discouraged to sell it there, cause I have watched a few myself and the bidders can get pretty agressive on the bidding, especially if you entise them a bit with a couple of games to go with it.

Thanks Guys,
I'll take your advice and try and put some money towards a new one. What versions should I be looking for ? I presume any after version 4. |
