Best PS2? and Best PS2 Chip?
Hello All, I need to pick your brains for some info. If you were to have your choice of which PS2 Version to buy which one would it be? Also, will a BRAND new PS2 work alright?
2nd Question- Which Modchip would be the best for the Version you picked in the first question?:) Getting ready to buy and wanted your opinions. Totally new to the PS2 backups. Well,,, no Im not, but there are much better mods and methods available now compared to when I last did it. THANKS! Sandman:confused: |
Id recommend a V7 (currently only availiable in the online packs) and a Duo chip. You can get the Duo chip from www.modchips.cc
The Duo chip is only 17 wires and only cost $21 with free shipping. Itll do everything you need it to do. And its a snap to install. Tyler! |
Update, the price is now $19.99 for the Duo Chip and still free shipping.
Thats $2 less than when I bought one. Tyler! |
I can also vouch for the duo chip as I just got mine back today from being fitted. Very nice reviews. It works Great. Since you are just getting back into the grove, you may want to brush up on the info here as far as backing up goes. I recommend reading the Ultimate Sticky as it has all of the info you will need for back ups.
Pioneer A06 is the choice dvd burner with RecordNow Max as the recommended software and Ritek brand media for ps2 backups. You will find the rest in the Sticky. Happy Hollidays, and welcome to the BEST site on the WEB. :) |
A friend of mine got a v9 pal about 2 months ago with an installed messiah 2 1.31 . About a week ago it stopped working good, his dvd movies (originals) freeze, some of his backups eyc, etc. Do NOT put a v1.31.......Me? fro the same place about a week ago i installed in my v7 pal a dms3. It kicks a**

Yes DUO is good V1-V7! very easy to install as well!
V9+ - I would go the BlueX-5 or the DMS3 V9. following that the MagicV 50k although I have heard rumours it has troubles with blue bottom originals. |
Do the Duo chips come with wires already soldered to the chips or do I have to purchase wire myself. If I do have to get my own wire and solder it to the chip, how would I do that, I've had chips where I had to do it myself before and I couldn't get the solder and wire to stay connected to the chip, also what kind of wire do I need and where should I buy it at. Thanks very much for your time all. I'm just barely getting back into the whole soldering my own chips thing.

No - hardly any chip comes with wires attached as chip placement etc would mean wire lengths would be impossible to predict without making them to long or short.
Also pre cut wire is harder to solder duo to partial oxidation due to extended exposure. Not a huge problem but still can effect difficulty of installs. Well the tools you will need are described here : www.psxmodchips.net/ps2tips.htm where to buy depends on where you live, places like: RS Farnell Jameco Radioshack JayCar Tandy ****Smiths etc all stock what you need. |
