Liteon LDW-411S or Pioneer A06/106 for backing up PS2 games?

I'm stuck in a dillemma between these two drives. Supposively the Liteon is able to write even higher quality DVD's than the Pioneer. The advantage of the Pioneer is the fact that it can be used on a wide range of medias. However, I am planning to use high quality DVD medias such as TY or Ritek. Also there is no write quality testing software for the Pioneer, which would make it hard to determine if the write quality is any good unless I test it on a Liteon DVD drive. Which one would you guys choose?

I want a Pioneer drive with a black face plate. My local store carry this drive: "DVR106-BK oem 4X ATAPI Internal DVD+/-RW Drive w/o Software (Black) (OEM)". Is this the right one? Also which firmware is it that will give me an increase in rip speed? Plus is the firmware safe? Is there anything negative about it? I know that I need to find the firmware specifically for the OEM drive simply because Pioneer's firmware isn't unified.

Yeah that is what you want. www.firmware-flash.com has all you need to know about firmware.

i have a Liteon LDW-411S and a SONY DRU-500A, both of these drives are very good. the Liteon LDW-411S needs the latest firmware update to be able to write to dvd-r media without any compatibility problems in stand alone dvd players. the SONY is just a bad ass!

i use both drives in 2 different PC's and i write to RITEK 4x G04 media without any problems. I also use TDK 4x DVD + and - R without any problems. if i had to choose on what drie to have i would want the SONY. i like SONY's products. i am not a fan of pioneer, but i am not bashing them either. rom what i hear the drives are great, and hell PIONEER invented the dvd-r drive. it use to cost $8000 for a 1x Pioneer dvd-r drive. then dropped dramaticly.

well thats my $0.02 :D

Sgt_Strider, have i seen u before at cdfreaks or cdrlabs??? hmm anyway, i have a liteon dvdrom and have done testing on my burns from my pioneer106D and i can tell u that the results are quite good. they work well on my ps2 also, especially the TY. ur guaranteed to do sucessful burns with just about any media on the pioneer so i have to give it the thumbs up. cant speak for the liteon, i hear its a bit of a mixed bag. go with the safe reliable option, pioneer.;)
