still clueless.
i have a pal version 9 PS2, i have just sent it to be chipped with the messiah 2.
does the new messiah 2 still fry the console or has that been fixed now? darkenclave |
If installed right, it will be fine. Charlie has a V9 in his and finds it perfectly OK. People now think that it actually has something to do with the console itself, rather than the actual chips, as other chips have started to do the same things. God, I hope when PS3 comes out, we won't have this kind of trouble modding the consoles...

thanks:D
btw, does the V9 have trouble playing DVD+R? my old V4 had, i hope thats been fixed:) |
Nope. Your V9 will have absolutely NO trouble in playing DVD+R.

I would love to post the full experiment results here - but it requires a 256K image in support that i cannot upload. Bottom line is that many v9s come without a heatsink on the LA chip that controls the focus, tracking and sled movement. The LA chip is rated (if it is like the BA chip on earlier models) to dissipate 2.2W at 25°C. Everyone knows that in the parts of the PS2 that the fan doesn't reach, the temperature will rise - probably to about 60°C. In that case the power dissipation threshold is much lower and certainly exceeded if the laser has to deal with poor quality DVD-R media. Unless a heatsink is fitted like it used to be on the v7s and earlier. So that's my advice if you want to avoid potential problems downstream. |

why would they use blue ray! thats like 40 something GB a disk!! how much do they need for a game?! i thought they might use dual layer dvds for the ps3.
|
they have dual layer for ps2 games. as the time moves on we will see many more games come out in DVD9 (dual layer)
|
I hope they do use the blue laser as at the moment they are very expensive but if someone like sony starts to mass produce them that will bring the price down far enough that they will start making consumer level DVD burners using this shorter wave length laser enabling us to store huge amounts on DVDs for less.
Last I heard a blue laser burner would retail at an estimated 2 to 4 grand US. Please Sony - mass produce this laser - this technology needs to become affordable for us gadget hungry consumers!! :D |
I guarantee you one thing, if Sony produces an unhackable system, they better grab for Nintendo’s heals on the way down because they’re going to sink like a rock!
