a new pc anyone know what is wrong with it

I build/program computers on the side so I will try to help the best I can.
First I need to know the last thing you remeber doing prior to this error. Did it work ok and then all of a sudden just quit on you? Do you have the original emachine software that came with? Have you done a virus scan lately? I had an emachine once before I gave it to my uncle and it was one of the easiest computers I ever programmed so hopefully we will get to the bottom of this quickly. If I remeber correctly, by installing the cd that came with it, and booting it up from the cd, it offers a list of options and one is to restore files without deleting any current software. Can you confirm this in the users manual? |
yea when i reformat i use the boot cds. i have scanned my pc for viruses i got norton pro 2004. erm this started to happen when i inserted my usb broadband thinggy im not to sire it happend when i stuck in my network card.
|
Ok so you have tried to re-format and still getting the same results even after the devices and drivers have all been set.
What about taking the network card, or the broad band thingy back out, to see if that gets rid of the error? When it boots up, are you getting video on the monitor? Its sounds like you are since you said you are getting the error message. I will be back on later tonight, gotta work right now. I have a feeling I know what it is but there are a few more tests and ques? just to be sure.. later m8. |
i take the usb broadband and network card out tommrow. oh yea i do get a error message as well about my graphics card i was going to get a new one. i read something about acpi its somthing to do with power managment
|
Hey M8, Sry for the long wait, long day at work. :p , ok back to work here. lol
ACPI = Advanced Configuration and Power Interface ACPI evolves the existing collection of power management BIOS code, Advanced Power Management (APM) application programming interfaces (APIs, PNPBIOS APIs, Multiprocessor Specification (MPS) tables and so on into a well-defined power management and configuration interface specification. The specification enables new power management technology to evolve independently in operating systems and hardware while ensuring that they continue to work together. click here to see more about acpi. In your case I think the network card is noncompliant. Upgrading the Graphics card may not solve this error but it would definitely make a difference since the emachines have onboard video thus slowing it down a bit. Be sure to disable the onboard video in setup when adding a new card. Also most video cards now a days are agp so you will need to see if you have an available port for add ons. PCI cards are probably slower than the onboard so you dont want to go that route. Hope this helps. ;) |
