Anybody have trouble with Need for Speed Underground or Kain Defiance?

I've suddenly hit a wall recently when I tried to backup both Need for Speed Underground and Kain Defiance. I've made a few backups of each and they start to load but then they just seem to stall and never finish loading. I've been using TDK media without any problems. Could this be a laser issue? My other backups still work fine. I'm stumped as to what's wrong.

Alright mate, I had a problem with this game as well, I can get it to boot and select a car but it won't load into a race.
I used DVD-R (Maxell) and RecordNow Max V4.5 which I have always used. I normally use +R though.

Oh, and this time round I used a pioneer A106 insted of my usual Nec burner.

Aparantly there is no protection on this game though

That's exactly what happens on my one backup. You select your car, then track , and then it stalls on the loading screen.
I always use Nero for my backups and it's never failed me. Media wise I'm using TDK DVD+Rs. I have a V4 PS2 with a Mgic 3 chip. I know that everyone says to use DVD-Rs but I don't buy that because I have many DVD+R backups. I dropped my system off to the guy that chipped it for me. I think the laser's going cause it makes a weird sound when it stalls. As if it's reading and then all of a sudden ziiiiip it stops. We'll see.

If you are having laser probs with +r, try some -r. Your laser might need cleaning as well.
