Need help with Modchips

Hello again!

I have another question:
I have a PS2 with a Neo2.2 modchip. Now I'tired of making the swap trick when I like to play a backup. I read about the Modchip called Magic 3.5. I heard there is a way of simply "clipping" the chip to the mainboard without soldering. Is that correct? Is that a good chip? And can I remove my old Neo Chip and install the new one? Or will I get problems with that?

Thanx for your help!

Yes there is a clip but it does not eliminate soldering, it just reduces the number of wires to be soldered. Magic 3.5 is horrible. 3.6 is better but still nothing wonderful. The clips are known to come loose and to over heat. And yes you can remove your neo to put in a new chip.

If you PS2 accepted a Neo2.2 then you can put in a Duo Modchip. I actually recommend it. Its only 17 wires and a fairly easy install. Total price is $21 and thats shipping included.

Ive installed one and noticed no problems in comparison to my Messiah 2.

I would also recommend the DUO if your concerned about soldering. I have only done 2 Dou's as of yet but they where very easy and a good performing chip. Bighap is also giving good advice as to not get the clip kit. If your going to finally break down and get a no-swap mod you might as well do it right the first time. Good luck.

I bought a new modchip today and put it into my PS2.
And...

It works! :)

And I will never ever have to make the swap trick again! That's really great! And finally I can play imported games!

Now I#m just looking forward to my holidays :)

Thank you very much for your help, guys!

Congrats. Whatcha get?

Nicki 24-11-2003 14:03

Thanx.
I got a chip called Sniper. I heard that it works very well.
Well, time will show.

bighap 24-11-2003 14:12

I believe the Sniper is a Messiah 1 clone. If you stick in a ps2 backup and hold reset until you see the Sony screen what happens? What boot procedures do you use?

Nicki 24-11-2003 14:13

I just put in the DVD and press reset. That's all.

bighap 24-11-2003 14:16

What if the game is already in there and you press reset to boot up, but keep holding reset until the Sony screen, what happens? Also see if these procedures work for you:

Original games (PS1 and PS2 CD & DVD)
• Load as normal

PS2 backups (CD & DVD)
• Insert game and close tray
• Press reset

PS1 Backups
• Insert game and close tray
• Press reset twice

DVD Films
• Insert game and close tray
• Press reset twice

Nicki 24-11-2003 14:18

I did not try movies or PS1, because I do not use those in my PS2.
But I got a "manual" for booting and it should work like you said.
