Random freezes and buzzing sounds??
 

I've had my xbox modded for about a year. For a long time no problems. I put in evo-x and some other apps. and a few months ago I began to get lock-ups during game play or even at the browser and a buzzing sound in the audio. So I took off evo-x thinking it would do the trick but still it does. Sometimes I can play without it happending other times it will over and over. I always have to power off the machine and try it again. The screen freezes on what ever frame it is and the buzzing starts.

Any help is appreciated. I am thinking either something in HD or maybe a solder point has gone bad.
It almost sounds like when you have a bad ground in an amp or something. That kind of buzz.

have u ever left it on for a long period of time?

No not really. No longer than a few hours playing. 2 or 3 max.

What game happens to be locking up?
I can think of a few problems that mite cause this. Heat being centered around all of them.


1) HDD getting to hot
2) Modchip getting to hot.
3) CPU getting to hot


This is only a guess from what I know about PCs. The cooler they run the better they run and less chance of lock ups.

You mite want to try opening your XBox and pulling the HDD and DVD-Rom out and laying them next to the case (still connected) and start playing. Try this for a few days and if it doesn’t lock up its most likely a heat problem. If it dose lock up, you have some thing else wrong.

I opened the box and checked my solder points and d0 and it looked pretty good. I think it may have something to do with heat issue too. It has happened without even a game in there, just the dashboard, so I don't know.
I played MOH:rising sun for 20 minutes with no lock-up so I'm stumped. I may put GTA in tomorrow and it will lock-up.
maybe I should try an original game for a while just to see what happens.

Thats weird i just chiped mine, and use the new bios 4979.67 and burned my first 2 games and Crazy taxi played fine, the second one was NBA Live 2004 and it does the samething u said it will play 10 to 20 minutes and freeze up and make that buzzing noise. So i know it is not a heating problem cause i can play Crazy taxi as long as i want. So i have no clue what the problem and im not using any evox.

also, is the buzzing in game, or is it the xbox thats making the noise.

Next time you open your xbox (if it's the hardware). Take out the power supply and look under it. Look at where the 2 prongs under the xbox power cord plug is soldered. Is it cracked? Alot of the older ones tend to crackle and create electrical problems. That buzzing you hear may very well be an electrical issue.

My problem was the game got a different version and all works fine.

i have the same prob as DLock except with my backup of fifa04
the repetitive buzzing i hear is the sound thats being played on the game at the time that fifa locks up, its only on this game tho
is it necessarily my copy of the game?
