Grand prix 4 patch 9.6
 

I've tryed to update Grand prix 4 to version 9.6. The patch installs fine but when I run the game it says Direct X 8.1 is not installed and refuses to run the game. I am running Windows XP with sp1 with Direct X 9.0b. I then used Game copy world's crack for that patch hoping that this might sort things out but I still had the same result (....Long shot I guess). The game ran fine before installing the patch with or without crack. Anyone got any ideas about this one????

Why you have installed the Patch 9.6 ???

Either reinstall Direct x 9 or uninstall it and use Direct x 8.

To GLH, The patch is supposed to fix a few key things like when you knock a wheel off and then go into the pits to fix it, the physics handling of the car is updated to allow it to steer correctly but graphics still show a wheel missing. Another bug v1.0 has is sometimes when you go into the pits during a race the support crew will not let you rejoin the race. There's a couple of other annoying things that the patch is supposed to fix as well which is all in the readme for the patch.

To North Viking, Thankyou for the advice I will give it a try. Is there any risk with the Uninstaller program. I thought you could not uninstall Direct X updates.

Are you both GP4 fans?

Well I have never tried to uninstall so can't say sorry.
But I doubt it could cause problems.

No I don't play GP4.

Oh well!

I suppose I'll give it a go.

Will need to back everything up 1st and prepare for the worst.

Should take a couple of days and I'll get back to you and let you know if it works.

The other things is though I will not be able to play other games that require Direct X 9 or later.

It will be interesting to find out whether you can uninstall direct x or not and for that reason I wouldn't mind doing it.

I'll get back to you on that one.

If anyone else has an idea as to why the patch does not work with Direct X 9 but version 1.0 does, please let me know.

Btw have you checked on the game companys homepage ?
Might be some info there.
