Reinstall the OS
|
done that many times still it doesnt work
|
Did you do a clean install ? No need to reformat, just delete the Windows and Program Files directories in DOS (use a boot disk) and you can make a clean install. If it still happens even when you reformat or follow my way, it's almost certainly a hardware error. If he's overclocking, put everything back to default. And check the memory with memtest86 , a LOT of weird errors happen because of faulty memory.

Could be your RAM, try and replace !

Hi seaneyb2003, it's very weird. Just some thoughts...
This is a known problem with AMD K6-II CPU's above 300 MHz (I have one at home :) ) but those have been current long ago... It still might be some timing problem: that your CPU is simply too fast for Windows 98...? Dunno, I'm having no problems with Windows 98 on an AMD Thunderbird 1000... Joe |

No problems with that OS ;) |
Hey seaneyb2003, don't let yourself get persuaded into switching to another OS! ;) Windows 98 _does_ work well with today's PC hardware, too... Switch only when you a have a reasonable reason (wow! :D ) to do so...!

It's only a matter of time before win 98 & me go the same way. The new NVidia Forceware 52.16 drivers are a good example, - They are currently only available for XP users. Even Virus writers have stopped making them effect win9x based systems (although thats a good thing, it shows how trends are going) I'm a great believer in " if it aint broke, don't fix it", but "if it is broke , fix it" is an under used phrase. I run a duel boot system of Win me & XP coz I like to get the hang of a new OS and patch the ineveitable bugs inherent in Microsofts policy of getting users to pay to beta test their products (did I say that?) before I commit to it. but thats not always possible for people without multiple drives, particians or limited HDD space. XP is pretty damn stable now & I find myself booting less & less to Me & will probably scrap or format my Me drive soon & dedicate it to something more usefull (like hardcore porn or ripped DVDs!! - I definitely didn't say that) non fic ps overall it sounds like a shoddley put together machine I hope it doesn't give your mate a tonne of problems, but fear it will. A newly built PC shouldn't really have 98 on it in the 1st place. Sadly, I think he may have been had. |
Win 2000 and Win XP are amongst the most stable Operative Systems

ur dam right they are. it was me mates computer that was buggered. No worrys got it fixed now. I think i will tell him to put xp on i hated xp at first caus there was so many bugs looks like they cleared that with the service pack.
