Alcohol 120%

Hi all

Just starting to use Alcohol 120% and made a backup of fire warriors, which needs emulating, but does not need a crack, seems like a good prog so far, also easy to use. nice interface,

Just a few questions, I do not have a dvd writer yet but want to back up some of my dvd movies on to cdr`s, i tried to make a disc image using Alcohol but it came up with error to say this dvd is copy protected, anyway round this? or do i need another prog to do this?

Thanks :)

All commercial dvds are CSS encoded, so you need a program that has DeCSS to decode them. Alcohol won't do this - legal reasons.
So get a dvd ripping program such as DVD Decryptor or Smartripper, or a program that will decode 'on the fly' such as AnyDVD

Thanks for that :)

Excuse me Ghost, when you say on the fly. Will you be able to just explore the DVD with ANYDVD on and just drag and drop the files? To your HDD that is.

I am curious but I dont currently have a dvd that needs backing up.

i havent done this in awhile, but i'd use a dvd player software to unlock the css. then, i think it was smartripper, to dump the contents to the hard drive. took about 15-20 minutes for that.

Yeah yeah. Thats old news but what I was asking is with ANYDVD can you just copy and past or drag and drop your movies files just by exploring your disc.

Or must you use a decrypting device to copy these files to your hdd?

Yes when i say on the fly I mean you can explore the dvd and simply copy and paste. Or you can even start transcoding the files with DVD2One for example straight from the dvd.

Thanks, Ghost.

Hi All,

Is it possible to copy dvd movies to cdr`s?
I have just started using DVD DECRYPTER which creates an image and bypasses the copy protection, so now i have a dvd movie as an image file, I do not yet have a dvd writer, so it would be nice if i could put some movies on to cdr`s

any comments? :)

TylerDurden 09-10-2003 13:37

No you cant. Not like you would a dvd. You can make svcd's or vcd's out of your dvd files but that is very timely and for my opinion a waste of time.

no offense meant, but wtf? answering the original question = old news?

My question was aimed at Ghost, when you intervened you assumed I was just asking about any old program. But if you would read Ghosts post first then Mine, you would understand what I was talking about.
