What version ps2 do you have? If you have a v5 or higher you are fine. If not, get a -rw burner.

I have the Pioneer A05 -R and all works fine. With prices these days, why lock yourself into a +R only? Go for something like the A06 which is + and - R. Just my opinion :D

Ask, and ye shall receive :D

DVD-Recordable.org has a document available with the specifications of the upcoming DVD recorder from Pioneer, which will be code named the Pioneer A07, probably also available in bulk version as 107. This drive will acccording to the documents support both DVD+R and DVD-R at 8 speed. Unfortunately the documents do not disclose any release date of the drive, as the DVD Forum has not approved DVD recording yet.

Conclusion:

The drive is similar in appearance to the DVR-106D with the same absence of the headphone jack & volume control the rear of the drive looks the same as the 106. As we can see the drive supports 6-8x write speed for both + R and -R media and as far as I know it is the first drive to do so.

The 6-8X Zone CLV means drive starts to burn at 6x speed and as it reaches the outer area of the drive by not slowing down the rotational speed it is able to increase the burn speed to 8x. The burning of CDR & CDRW media is a maximum of 24x Zone CLV.

The DVD-R read speed is still very slow at 2x for 1x speed media and up to 8x for 4x speed media
