vibration function not working

i have a v7 and was wondering if the vibration function can be fixed. i first made sure that it wasnt my controllers so i tested them out on my friends ps2 and they both worked but when i tried them on my ps2 the vibration function doesnt work. is it fixable or do i have to go to my ATM and take out some cash to buy a new ps2.
