cd-r backups work but not dvd

Hi everyone

I recently bought my friends chipped PS2 which he bought from thailand the model no is SCPH-39006. I dont know what chip it has but it plays cd-r backups no problem but cant get any DVD backups to work.

I use Datawrite Classic yellow media and nerosmart to burn, so far i have tried the hulk and Tombraider Angel of Darkness.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks Heli:)

Kooldraco is probably on the right track. If it was a new 39006 then it's almost certain to be a v8.

It would help if you opened up the PS2 and looked at the mainboard and BIOS chip. If they show respectively GH-022 and B090.. then it's a v8. So then you'll need to photograph or accurately describe the modchip that is installed and how many wires etc.

To piggy back on this topic - why is it that CD-R's boot up first try but DVD-R's sometimes gotta be coaxed?
