xbox emulator already
looks as if some smart arse finally made one that works, so far it only plays halo but here are the details on it....
I am sure by now most of you have heard of the new xbox emulator just released, named "Xeon". From the screenshots I have seen, it is very impressive. Halo is apparently playable, although I have not been able to verify this myself. I hope that _SF_ will contact kingofc and myself, so that we can work together to get playable games happening very quickly. This is very exciting news for the emulation scene, and I want congratulate _SF_ on his work. Recently, two of my hard drives became corrupted, and I lost alot of data. I hope to recover this data very soon so I can continue work on Cxbx. In the meantime, enjoy the new toy, and look forward to seeing Halo supported by Cxbx in the near future! Some Info About Xeon Author: SF ---------- Description: Xeon is an X-Box emulator for the PC. Currently it supports one commercial game, and support for more will be added in the future along with other features. ---------- Compatibility: Halo (NTSC version only) ---------- Requirements: Windows XP DirectX 9.0a Pentium 3/Athlon XP processor Recommended graphics card: GeForce FX/Radeon 9200 Pro or higher. |
yah, and there is another one that plays an xbox homebrew game called xmarbles, and the beginning movie of turok. I however cannot wait for a GC emulator.

I'll believe it when I see it...

An emulator that plays only one game isn't really an emulator is it.
Xeon is more of a shell for Halo than a true emulator and Cxbx can't even be called an emulator as it loads code ( allegedly) but doesn't do anything with it. You can't see it, play it, manipulate it etc. It's nice to see some action in this area but folks are being a bit premature in announcing that there is a successful Xbox emulator just yet. ;) I tried Xeon and it threw up a dll error. I never get them when playing Halo on my Xbox. :D |
People are all excited not because of how good it plays the games, but rather because those are proof that an xbox can be emulated on a PC sooner than we thought. It's like when a system is hacked for the first time. Only the people that hacked it know how to do anything, but people know that the information will be released and homebrewn apps/backups will be playable on the system, so they get excited.
It is a preview of a possible future to come. |
