dvd backup boot w/ v4, STARchip + GS 1.4
Hi I just got a dvd burner and I was wondering what the boot method was for my configuration.
I got an old V4 w/ a STARChip (neo 2.2 basically) and and old GS 1.4. I tried both the normal boot method and the "High TOC switch" to no avail, but it might be my Memorex media. Anyway if someone has a similar setup I'd like to know how they boot dvd backups, or if I'm just wasting my time with the old stuff. Thanks in advance Gary |
Your laser might not be up to the task to play dvd backups. Also make sure you use dvd-r for your setup. Might want to try a different brand media too. Memorex dvd media is known to suck on the ps2.

yea I ordered some Ritek's yesterday so I'll give em a shot.

Excellent choice.:)

This was SUCH a pain in the ass for me (Neo2.5 w/GS), and I had a good GameShark. (Version 2.1)
Basically to play DVD backups you have to overload the GS with too many codes... but not TOO many or you'll lock it up. I wrote a walkthrough and attached it to the boot methods sticky. Give it a shot, you might have to fiddle a bit though. It might be worthwhile, if your laser isn't TOO fried, to upgrade your chip. I did. - Gurm |
I have the same setup
I think you should try another game shark. When I had my chip installed . They told me it will only boot dvd-r's with a game shark v1.9. I haven't tried it with any other version of the game shark. Just something you should look into. P.S Did you have it installed in Toronto?

Yeah, well - I heard that certain Game Shark versions couldn't boot DVD-R, too. But I have made several of them work. It just takes a lot of fiddling - if you don't have the patience, update the MOD chip. :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm still debating whether I'm gonna put any more money into the old v4.
I've gotten a Video DVD-R to play in my V4 so I think my laser might still be ok. Thanks for the tip zellar, that clears up why my GS 1.4 isn't working as advertised, and no I had to self install my chip, unfortunately. I'll keep you guys posted, Thanks again. Gary |
