GTA Vice City EXE
 

Ok, I am not a professional cracker. I am more of an occasional cracker. I know hoe to make game cracks and program cracks, but I do not do it unless I have to. IE: if there are no cracks for a particular game. I am trying to teach a friend how to become a cracker. I am trying to show him on VICE CITY. I am teaching him my method of
1. Open file in W32Dasm
2. Refs -> string data references
3. Look for game error
4. Use offset number for the game line at bottom of screen
5. Open file in HIEW
6. Enter Offset #
7. At offset number line, edit and enter 9090909090

On the Vice city exe, I don't see the error message in string data references. I looked at the other dll files but I don't see it there either. Is my method outdated, or is there another way to crack the exe?

vice city was securom protected, so chances are you wont see any 'insert cd messages' etc that you are looking for, you picked a bad target.. also it has triggers, so i'd definately pick a different target if i were you, also there are cracks for vice city already which work fine and i'd learn some more about the protections before you teach your friend some more ;) and not all cracks can be patched with simple 90's either
