problems with clondvd
hi all, I hope someone can help me
I have recently brought a pioneer -r burner. I have been using dvd decrypt and clonedvd. My problem is that when i try to back up, (in particular harry potter chamber of secrets and men in black 2) towards the end of the film the picture and sound starts freezing and or the film then starts to skip through the chapters. when using clonedvd i have copied film and extras. I have converted my hard drive file system to ntfs as i had same problem as highlighted in another thread and thought that, that might be the problem. I thought it might be the media i was using but i have copied other films successfully using the same discs. The only thing that i haven't done with my limited knowledge is to re-decrypt the films in question, as they were put on my hard drive before i changed from fat32 to ntfs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as my house has loads of brand new harry potter coasters. thanks in anticipation |
Crap media.
The single biggest symptom of lousy media, other than completely failed burns, is skipping towards the end of the movie. Try burning at a lower speed, or switch to better media. - Gurm |
:D gurm, thanks very much, i tried different media and i have now got a harry potter that doesn't skip etc.

Hey, you're welcome. It happens to the best of us. I've had what I thought was perfectly good media die, too. In fact I've had a couple Verbatims and Fujis die, and that IS good media!
The problem is that DVD media is currently undergoing the same process that CD media did - which is to say that companies are realizing that people won't pay $4 a disc for media that only works 50% of the time, and speeds are rapidly increasing (we'll see 8x DVD-R/+R by the end of the year, or so I hear). So you end up with a lot of discs that sit around under less-than-optimal conditions which were only marginal to begin with. :( You don't see REALLY BAD CD-R media much any more, although my brother-in-law got some at Christmastime that SUUUUUUUCKED even though it was supposed to be good and rated for 48x. It was OBVIOUSLY bad, too - had a nice wavy pattern on the shiny tops. YUUUUCK. Glad to hear you found some good media though. - Gurm |
