Is anyone here a hacker good or bad?

I don't know anything about hacking, I just see the tv or movie version and I am curious to how it works. Is there a program you make that goes through each password possibility.

I don't want to learn how to do it more along the lines on how it works. When someone says this servers been hacked I have no idea what that means. Does it mean they somehow got in with administrator access?

Anyways I would appreciate if anyone has a link explaining about hacking!

Which movie? Hackers 1 or 2? 2 is based on a true story and 1 was a ballof crap and made no sense.

Im not a hacker, but hacking doesn't refer to breaking into government archives or things like that anymore. It's more like reverse engineering and breaking down programs and hardware. In the world today it is hard to breaking in to anything thats worth it. Security has increased to a point that hacking server is just sending signals that trick the servers into giving you information (like yahoo or hotmail), finding glitches or mis-haps.

Spyware attached to email or planted on your PC is another thing that can be a problem. They can send information about you computer to the internet, like cookies which can contain passwords and other information. The internet is a huge network and if your on it, you can be vulnerable.

Yes, I am called a super Hacker - everytime anybody watches me play golf!!! :D

Basically, IMO "hacker" is a general term for anybody using something for something other than what it was intended. Like say...making your Xbox read DVDRs! :p

but you are probably thinking about the more criminal types that get all the media attention for taking control of other people's machines, defacing websites, or stealing the top secret government plans for the Lazy Irritating Noobie Computer Destroyer (me and Dude are big contributers to them!:p )

Yes a lot of it is relatively simple stuff that is overlooked by the server operator and hackers simply look for open ports and sloppy password security. You would crap your pants if you knew just how easy it can be to outright guess some passwords. You know how many are birthdays, anniversaries, pets name, kids or wifes name, or phone numbers people always use?? I see these lame passwords on a lot of computers I fix and it's shocking how simple most of them are.
