GTA VC Securom*new*

Hey everybody, I am trying to backup GTA VC but I'm having problems.
At first, I tried reading an .img file with Clonecd, then I tested it. While its installing, it asks me for the cd2 too early. The original cd only asks me for the cd2, which contains data3.cab, at the very end of the installation.
Anyway, when i insert cd2, which is supposed to have data3.cab, is asks me for the cd which contains data4.cab, and then I can't do anything:( .
Does this error have something to do with securom? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks a lot,

Horacio

does it work with the originals.. if so you got a buggered backup disk, start making the images again
if not, make sure your drivers, ms installer etc are up to date
it doesnt sound like securom, it sounds like an installshield issue which could be related to out of date system files, then again it could be something different all together

When i iamge with clonecd, I test it with clonecd's virtual disc, and the problems still happen. I've had this dataX.cab problem with some "The Sims" cds. Think I'm gonna try something out with Alcohol120%, I'll post a reply by tomorrow, cya

thanks

Hi horacio,

You might wanna try copying off _all_ the files from _both_ CD's into an empty directory on your hard disk and installing the game from there. If the files were copied successfully onto the hard disk, you can be sure that 1) the installation files are not damaged and 2) the installation medium (the hard disk) is working fine, too. Just an idea...

Thanks for the help u 2, but I finally got to make a working copy. I used BlindWrite, and that program is very good, I imaged it and then burned, using only Blindwrite, thanks!

by this statement do you mean you acually made aworking clone or copy of a SECUREROM *NEW* ptotrctrd game? or do you still need a fixed exe/nocd to run it.

If you've cracked SECUREROM *NEW* I'm sure many of us would like to know how.

if so please please post a list of the Blindwrite settings you used & the model of CDRW Drive you're using - coz I gotta get one of them.

Note that while you can make a working backup of any securom new title, this backup will NEVER be an exact copy. In other words, you can't make another copy of that backup that will work on its own. So use the backup and store the original somewhere VERY safe.

I'm pretty sure I didn't crack Securom*new*, but I'll post the configurations I used. There's one thing: I'm not an expert, my intention was just to copy the cd, I'm new at this:)
My cdburner is: "HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B 1.04" I bought it as an LG CD-burner 32x10x40x
I don't have the cds with me right now, I borrowed them to a friend yesterday, but I'll have them by tomorrow. I do have both image files stored at my hard disk, is there a way to get that information from the images?

I still have to use a crack to run the game, the cds I read the image files from weren't original either.

TippeX 05-07-2003 12:41

if you still have to use a crack then you havent made a working clone, oh, if the image files you read werent original either then you kinda of wasted your time using blindwrite when you could have used nero's copy cd menu, because as good as blindwrite is, it cant magically put the protection back when it wasnt existant on the source it copied ;)

horacio 05-07-2003 18:15

Let me see if I understood what you are saying:
As I still have to use a crack to run the game, I didn't make a working clone of the original, AND, since the cds I used weren't the originals, let me say it this way, the protection had already "worked", and protected the cd, forcing me to use a crack.
Then, when I copied the cds, it was the same thing, right?

The text may be difficult to understand, since I'm not american, but its not that important.
Thank you all for the help

original cd's -> make image using blindwrite, chances of you 'cloning' the protection layer : high, chances of image requiring a crack : low

non original cd's (and ones not made from imaging), chances of cloning the protection layer : none, chances of image requiring a crack : 100% (if not higher)

and technically for you the protection didnt work, rather it failed, and thats why you needed to use a crack
