PS2 Help?
Hi,
I just got a modded PS2 recently (by way of a friend), so unfortunately I have no idea what chip's inside. I just know it (supposedly) boots directly PS2 discs, and needs a reset and hold power for 2-3 seconds for PSX and DVDs. Snag is that it boots PS2 discs (HK DVDs, CDs, CD-R backups) perfectly, but when i try the reset and hold boot for PSX (CD-R backup, HK silvers), i hear the sound u usually hear from an actual PSX at a black screen, then the console seems to hang indefinitely there. Also, for DVDs (original cross-region) i get the error message that says that i have the wrong region. Now obviously there's something screwy when i use the reset and hold boot, i just have no idea what. it probably isnt the chip though, i've seen (although just once, elusively) the console boot up a CD-PSX R backup. I'm not really in a position to take the console back to the vendor, so i was hoping some of you gurus have some advice for me. I'm not too averse to opening up the console, just as long as i know what i should be looking out for. So somebody, anybody with an idea, please help! Sorry for the lengthy read and TIA :) |
Try this:
NOTE: This is with the disk assumed in the tray and the tray closed: Playstation 2 Games • Power up normally from STANDBY with RESET button. A single tap is required. Playstation 1 games & DVD Movies • Power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the blue EJECT light comes on; then release RESET and the disk will boot. You can also try this for you ps1 & movies.... PS1 Backups • Insert game and close tray • Press reset twice DVD Films • Insert game and close tray • Press reset twice Also, the error you get with a cross-region dvd (i'm assuming that its a DVD movie)..... Most mod chips will not let you play out of region movies.... |
Hi BG,
thanx for the quick response! ;) unfortunately neither boot method seems to work for PSX discs still, sigh... and i had been under the impression that mods would remove region protection, but i guess not... that's irritating coz i've got a 2.13A dvd driver version for which nobody seems to have the dvdregionx codes. dang. |
anyway i had a shot of dismantling my ps2 and trying to identify my chip, so the closest match i found is the "bluechip vx" also known as multiblue. matches a pin diagram i found at http://www.eurasia.nu/shop/product_i...roducts_id=226
almost exactly except D+ and G are swapped. the damn thing still refuses to boot psx backups. any ideas? thanx |
