are they any good? |
from what i can gather theres not a lot of info at the moment...good luck with all the wires (33)from what ive heard
|
good thing i took a bit of electronics in school then i guess :D i didnt think there would be that many wires, and i hope its worth the money and the wait

Hi,
You gona need more then your Electronics Knowledge from School matey, ive chipped many PS1s and also did Electronics at school and theres no way im gonna chip a PS2 with a NEO4 mod, if youve seen the points to soldier a NEO2.2 it can sometimes take upto 2 hours to soldier on a Ver 4 board. The NEO4 is gonna be a nightamare, you might wanna think about getting someone to soldier it for you, thats what i did when i got my NEO2.2 installed, was not gonna take the chance about messing it up. Cheers Dal |
ill take your advice in regard, but what if you get some other guy to do it and he screws it up then what?
|
You're f*cked! But a PS2 repair business as found by a search the web should yield a trustworthy expert.
|
i bought all the nick nacks im gonna need to solder it myself, i cant see it being any harder than doing a ps1 if the solder points are at least a few milimetres thats all i need
havent opened up the ps2 yet but if someone else can do it i can too |
I agree with Dal and Charlie. I'd be mighty scared to solder 33 wires when so much can go wrong with any of them! Here's a site that was recommended by www.playstationmods.com for finding qualified installers.

Take my advice soldering 8 wires on a PS 2 was hell. To solder 33 wires will be almost impossible. Hopefully there will be a mod chip in the future with less wires.
|
The reason it needs so many wires is this:
To avoid having to swap, the NEO4 (or its counterparts) has to pretend to be an acceptable boot disk. Then it can fool the PS2 prom logic into thinking that the off-phase laser scan to determine the type of CD has occurred, and it can set up all the other necessary conditions ready to continue loading from your import or backup. Thus the modchip needs to have access to all the necessary registers so that it can perform its functions. It also needs to control the DVD drive and so on. That means wires. |
Hey Lococoin go for it. Remeber u bought your Playstation so if u f##@ it up thats your problem. Hey if u get it done I might get u to do mine hows that sound.
Well good luck. |
how much smaller are all the solder points on the ps2 compared to the ps1 because i didnt think they were that bad on the ps1 when i did the stealth elite chip, so if they were the same i was gonna do it myself
|
1mm tip to avoid touching two solder points.
|
I am in the same boat, I am in Canda as well and I am waiting for mine the same day. 33 wires, holy $hit that is going to take forever to install, I guess I better make sure I am not shaking that day or I will be buying an XBOX instead of fixing my PS2. LOL
|
ill stick with my 2.2.. is it worth it when all you need is a 5 second swap ?????
