V7 chips
 

Are there any known problems with having an apple2 chip in a version 7 machine? as im about to put one in

Not sure about Apple2.

Apple (original) in a V7 had an issue with Splinter Cell, but Bighap found a way around it, so no biggie.

whats the latest rate on apple chips and are they better than the dms3 in ps1, ps2 and dvd movie functionality only, dont care bout the other features

Apple chips can be had for a little more than a Magic, which is to say around $27-$30.

Are they "better" than a DMS3? No. Probably not.

Why?

1. DMS3 is upgradeable.
2. DMS3 has all them whack extra features.

But I'd buy an Apple anyway. Why?

1. It's a third of the price.
2. I don't like overly complex whack addons. I want a chip that ... boots my games.

or just get a messiah 2.

for a bit more you will get no problems at all

go with the messiah 2 works 100% on every boot

At any given time, the Messiah 2 is double the price of the Apple. I have yet to find or hear of a game the Apple won't boot, so I feel it's an excellent "cheap" solution.
