Problems with clonecd not copying UNPROTECTED games.
 

Hi all. I have mentioned this problem here before but am still stumped as to what the problem could be? (and i have searched the webs other sites to). I can backup PROTECTED games no probs with clone cd but when i try to backup a unprotected disk with clone it NEVER works ? (ie install process will stop at a certian percentage even though when i copy the unprotected disk clone gives it the thumbs up, all unprotected disks were scanned with clony and i used the profile clony generated). When i just use clones game profile for unprotected disks it sometimes works and sometimes dosnt. I can backup unprotected disks with nero no probs but i am wondering why clone wont do this for me ?. Has anyone else had simela probs with clone and unprotected disks and if so did you manage to sort the prob out ?.
Any help with this anoying problem will be appreciated as i really dont have a clue what is behind this and have searched the web to find a answere but to no avail :(

What kind of unprotected stuff do you want to backup? Just to make sure we are talking about the same.

Well its mostly game cds that have cd1 protected and other cds unprotected. Ie command and conquere Generals,splinter cell ect, As you most likely know only 1 disk is protected with above games (cant remember exactly which disk number now) but many other game cds aswell. I scan with clony and cd killers scanner which backs up the fact the disks i am having trouble with are unprotected (but i also checked this out here on the forums). I have no probs at all backing up the unprotected disks with nero. Clone reports its a 100% copy but as i said in last post the installation process with backed up unprotected disk normally fails?. I find it really weird that i havent YET come across a protected game disk i cant back up but have trouble with unprotected ones :p .(when using clone) Awating your reply (or anyone elses) to this strange phenomonon (if i spelt that wrong then so be it).

Weird thing. Have you done the usual: Get the latest version of CloneCD, checked your Aspi layer...
Allthough I doubt, that it has something to do with it....

Could be related to the read/write speed and the condition of the original media. You say that when you use the default game profile it sometimes works - when you use this profile the subchannel boxes will be ticked and this often will reduce the read speed which may be helping.
Try to identify one of the problematic disks, clean in with a soft cloth (from inside out, not circularly), then read it at a slow speed - mount it to see if it works. If so, then do a slow write.

Experiment a little with some vaiables to see if you can identify the problem

I have the latest version of clone cd but if im honest i diddnt hold much hope out for this fixing the annoying problem of unprotected disks (which it diddnt :p ). You refered to Aspi layer which i have a little knoladge about but not enough to understand its job. Can you explain a little on Aspi layers plz ?. Also when i said i had trouble backing up unprotected disks i only mean GAME unprotected disks. I have read what you put gh0sth@cker and this seems to make sence concidering the results when i use the clone game profile and cloonyxxl profile even though clones game profile dosnt allways work. There arnt "problematic disks" as such because ALL unprotected game disks have trouble being backed up when i use clone. (but no trouble what so ever when i use nero ??). Im going to try to back up another unprotected game disk tonight and i will follow your advice (gh0sth@cker) . Im realy at a loss here as you can probarly tell. I mean protected game disks are no trouble @ all (i havent come across 1 i cant back up and many of them are 1.1s). Could the Aspi layer have something to do with my problems ??. If you know it is unprotected then use something like CDRWin.
CloneCD has the same effect on unprotected PSX games as well.

@ Black Diamond. Yes i know i can use a diff proggie to backup unprotected disks Its more of a annoyance not being able to use clone to backup unprotected disks but also clone should have no probs with unprotected stuff and this is why i was asking for some help.
